Sorry, I havent ever done this, but needed to share my disaster of a day, yesterday was my daughters birthday, and the first day of school. My son is going to high school as a freshman, and my daughter into the third grade. My son went out to my car to get this HUGE balloon for my daughter, as he did he popped it on the car door. Ok, not the end of the world, she got to see it before it completely deflated.

Then the little nervous freshman heads off to the bus stop, I go to get ready to work out only to have him return on the verge of tears, he missed the bus. Ok, ok no problem lets go. I drive him to school looking horrible as we pass by the seniors in their jag convertibles screaming and yelling about how they rule the school. The poor kid looks like he is about to throw up at this point. He makes it I get home and the day goes on. Daughter on bus to 3rd grade I go in and start working on her cake. At 10 I get online to purchase advanced Hannah Montana concert tickets. Prior to this I paid $30.00 to join her fan club just to get these tickets for my daughters birthday present. One hour and half later they are sold out. Im in tears, screaming and yelling at the ticketmaster guy how dare they sell out, what am I going to do now? Not to mention Im an hour and half late in my busy day.

I have to get black fondant, and go drop off some stuff for my husband at the restaurant he manages. The store is out of fondant, but we can order you some. Ugh, more tears. Compose myself get to the restaurant, see the hubby, and loose it. Loose it all over the place, crying what are we going to do? The house is a mess; the cake isnt even close to resembling anything, no black fondant, no present except for the fan club membership, zero time for anything. Im a blubbering mess at this point.

The owner sees me, comes over and asks whats wrong. I explain to him about the tickets, dont know what Im going to do. He asks where the show is, I tell him and he picks up his phone. Two seconds later he is giving out his credit card and says to me you have two tickets to Hannah Montana, they are $75.00 each I pay for one, you pay for one Im sobbing at this point, blubbering all over this well connected millionaire thanking him for saving me.

Get home running around trying to get this cake done, roll out the fondant for the bottom layer, and guess what? I forget to frost the thing first!!! OMG!!! So no black fondant, very little purple MMF that I made and its covered in chocolate crumbs. Throw it out, use what I have and get it together.

Two hours later the kitchen is a disaster, high schooler is home, cake is not exactly what I wanted, but it works out. In-laws due to the house in an hour, forgot to buy beverages for dinner, call hubby he is like whatever you need (with the tone of please, please, please dont start crying again). Daughter comes home, takes off for the pool with her friends; phone is ringing off the hook with everyone wanting to wish her a happy birthday. Im covered in fondant, frosting and cake, no shower the whole day, red puffy eyes. Race around, clean up house, wrap up a piece of paper telling her about the concert, order pizza (forget making dinner at this point), change clothes to resemble somewhat of a human being and have a margarita.

All in all, the day turned out great, she freaked out about the tickets, and the cake looked good!

Oh no!! LOL!!! We can laugh about it now that it's all over. Once one thing goes wrong, the whole day seems to be a disaster, doesn't it? Some days I would just like to go back to bed and start over! You pulled it off and your daughter will remember it forever! You had a few guardian angels with you that day, including the restaurant guy! My husband just took our son to his first concert ever (he is 10) and he loved it. It was Corbin Bleau, Drake Bell, Aly & AJ, etc. DS was making fun of the girls screaming for Corbin and Drake. LOL!

Okay, now where is a pic of the cake?!?!

And here I was feeling down yesterday just because I had to send my kids to school. So sorry for your day. In the end it sounds like your daughter was happy and isn't that what really matters?! Have a good day today. Hopefully you can take some time to kick back and relax!

This is kind of off the subject a little, but I can't believe everyone else is saying that school has just started for their kids! My daughter's school started the very first week of August and my son (preschool) started the second week!! It gets earlier and earlier every year. I wouldn't doubt they start going all year long before long! icon_cry.gif Lchristi, just try to forget about the day now that it is over and we know your daughter will enjoy the concert! thumbs_up.gif

bless your heart - atleast everything turned out alright (thank God for millionaires with connections, lol). As far as the no fondant/decorating disasters - sounds like a typical day in cake world for me - I am the most absentminded/forgetful/klutzy person I know!

Bless your heart!!!! I wish I could give you a big hug but it sounds like the margarita helped.

I saw the cake in your pics and it was just darlin'. Your daughter will remember that forever. My daughter who's now 21, still remembers when I took her and some of her friends to see Hanson (remember them? the 3 blonde brothers who sang do op?) It was just a little 3 song concert that was at 9am. Got up at 3am, drove 2 hours to wait in line and let the girls skip school. The other girls mom's agreed that it was worth it. So did the other 5 thousand girls mom's that were there. AND what a nice millionaire!

I know about the fear of your son being a freshman. Luckily, my kids went to a small school and my daughter was a junior when my son was a freshman. Her and her friends protected him through high school and middle school.

I'm really glad the day turned out good for you. You pulled off a great job!

Thank you all so much. Back at work today, almost less stress than being at home!

Everyone's right, I do have many guardian angels watching out for me, I'm so lucky. Just one of those days I guess. Not to mention the owner who is so good to all of my family told me to keep his name out of it, and he didnt want my daughter knowing that he got the tickets or that he paid for one. He is just one of those kind human beings, and he adores her. Again, we are so blessed.

Not sure why the picture didnt attach, lets try this again.

I'm so lucky to be a part of this CC family that understands!

In Michigan they passed a law and all schools have to start after Labor Day. Seeing as much of our economy here is based on the travel industry, they felt that putting kids in school before the last summer holiday was cutting into that profit. MI economy is not doing well...anything that cuts into any sort of profit is a bad thing! Now the family's here are all able to vacation through the summer and not have to worry about getting kids to school. I think it's great. They are out before Memorial and don't go back until after Labor Day.

Thanks so much (everyone)..my son is going to a high school with 3,300 kids. I graduated with 200 so I'm scared to death of the place...He came home smiling and happy telling me he found his friends and his bus home!

Oh Man!

The cake turned out really cute! Btw.. for the future, if you need black fondant and don't have any, just dilute some paste coloring down with some almond extract and paint it on to the pieces on the cake. You'll actually use far less of it than you would if you had to kneed it in. It'll also get you a shinier more pronounced blacky-black..

As for the concert tickets... stuff like that bugs the HECK out of me... What it is, is that they pre-sell to places like radio stations and such that use them for giveaway promotions so that when you do call to get tickets they're sold out. I remember years back when Garth Brooks was in his glory, they sold out of the concert in 20 minutes, YEA RIGHT!.. There were radio stations all around the state that had "Garth ticket giveaways"... icon_mad.gificon_mad.gif .. Which reminds me, I need to pester DH tomorrow about whether or not he's going to get tickets to the Rush concert so we can have somewhat of a chance of locating a sitter for DD..

As for the high school thing... My COLLEGE only had 5,700 students... My HS only had 640 students in the whole school and we thought that was too big.. I just wonder how kids maneuver around the hallways in time to not be late to get to their next class!

Thanks for the comment! Wish I would of had time to do borders around the rest of the cake, but glad I got where I did yesterday!

I was so flippin mad about the tickets, my mom said she was so grateful for our friend, but then asked me if it didnt just tick me off a bit that someone like that calls up and gets tickets because of 'who they are?". Being selfish, I'm like who cares, but then I'm like ok what about all the people like me who tried to get tickets and couldnt. I'm not the only person on earth here! So you hit it on the head! Rush? I'm so jelous, want to trade for hannah montana? (just kidding)

The school is huge, but all the parents of kids who go there say they all love it. He loved it by the time he got home too. The first time I saw it I wanted to home school! icon_smile.gif

Thanks again to everyone for listening to my frustrating day, you all rock.

The whole thing with tickets really bugs me too... But one thing to keep in mind... those "ritzy too do people" that can call and get whatever whenever... normally have connections and have probably paid in advance to someone to have tickets to every concert at that specific place set aside just incase a last minute need arises... They also may have stock in the place or maybe possibly in ticketmaster icon_wink.gif

My DD just started high school also - luckily it was a good day for her (I was a nervous wreck for her instead!)

I took my other DD to see Hannah Montana and the Cheetah Girls last year in concert. We had a lot of fun - hope you enjoy it!

So it turns out I wasnt alone in being frustrated with the Hannah Montana situation. It's on the news, parents are ticked off about buying the fan club membership and not getting tickets! Someone even said they were going to sue them. Yikes.

School here in Minnesota starts after labor day, and ends mid june as well.

I hope this link works. The Missouri AG is suing ticket brokers for buying hundreds of these tickets!
