Made frosting using 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter and followed the recipe.
Is this recipe suppose to taste very shall I say Buttery?

I use half butter and half crisco. Mine does't taste that buttery but that's the way I like it. If you want it more buttery tasting, try adding some butter flavoring.

Good Luck!

the recipe called for butter flavoring so I used the butter flavor. Maybe next time use vanilla instead.

Yeah, I always use up to 1 tsp of Wilton's Butter Flavoring along with the vanilla, and it tastes much more buttery than without!

I think the butter just makes it smooth. I always flavor with 1 tsp vanilla, 1tsp butter flavoring and a dash of almond.

If its too sweet add a dash of popcorn salt.

I also use one have shortening 1/2 butter but I only put vanilla or almond flavoring in it (I did not even no there was such a thing as butter flavoring!).
