I use no pattern ... depending on the camo you want to use, green, browns, black or the desert sand colors, ivory, beiges and light brown... I use random splotches of it all over then I smooth .. I've even left it rough textured and it looked good too ... I mix all my colors in bowls, using a different spatula in each, swirl in each color in different shapes all over the cake ... I let it sit for about 10 - 15 minutes then I smooth it down with a Viva papertowel ... HTH

I have done a couple and what I do is mix up several shades of green and brown and just pipe them on in puzzle type patterns. I put each puzzle piece on then smooth it down and add the next after you are thru and the cake is covered I take and smooth the whole thing just like I do when I frost any other cake. If you need any other help just let me know.

I did a Winnie the Pooh cake where I needed desert camouflage (long story). I mixed up four or five different browns and tans, and piped size 16 stars... maybe 6-12 at a time in groups, until I got bored of that color. Then I switched to a new one, just going back and making sure I left no spot uncovered. It worked really well, and was super easy to do.
