Dos= Day Of Sharing In Wichita, Ks???
Decorating By CarolAnn Updated 29 Oct 2007 , 1:24pm by cakesbybert
Exciting news! I called Cake Stuff and they said that they are hosting an ICES Day of Sharing on Sunday, October 21 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. He said that you do not need to be a member of ICES to come, and that there is usually pre-registration and a small fee. He did not yet have any details but has promised to call me when they do get any. I will post again here when he does.
Now I just need to find out what a Day of Sharing usually includes and what to do to prepare!
Regards,
Linda
Hey ladies!!
OMG!!! I get kicked off my computer for a week, come back, and was reading like a mad woman to catch up!!!
I'm really excited that someone found information!! I just emailed Cathy Hansen (the kansas ICES rep) to have her send me information. I just signed on with ICES like two months ago, and her name was the one they sent me to contact. So I figured if anyone knew anything, she would.
I say, October 21st, lets just all meet up at this Cake Stuff place, all you girls from Wichita will be there already, and the rest of us, we'll just trekk down there.
Hell, if we get there and nothings going on, then I'll sit on the back of the tailgate to my truck and we'll set up a DOS in the parking lot. lol. ![]()
Cause I'm with CarolAnn, I want to meet you ladies!!!!! Oh my gosh, I'm so excited. I'm writing it on my calendar now!!
Alright ladies....
Here's what I found out about the DOS....
"We are going to have a DOS in Wichita in October, I am waiting for the girls in Wichita to tell me what Sunday. It was going to be the 14th, but I think they are going to have to change it to the 21st. I will send out more information as soon as I have it."
So that's all the info I have from Cathy Hansen who is the Kansas Rep for ICES. So... when she gets info... I'll get info....
Tres' Excitement!
Okay this is long but the following is the info I just received this from Sewsweet2. Unfortunately since the date was changed from what was first put out there may be some who will not be able to attend. I feel very bad to have been the one to post about this in the first place. Maybe I should have waited for someone else to do it after the date was really set. My sincerest apology to anyone who cannot make it because of the change in dates. I look forward to meeting all of you who do make it to Wichita. NOW to my understanding we do NOT have to be ICES members to attend a DOS. THAT better be right!! Looks like those going south are going to at meet at Gardner and carpool. I'm leaving from Ottawa (30 minutes south on I-35) and would be happy to join the convoy from there. There's a Wendy's just off I-35I where we could meet. I drive an Expedition so have room for 4 passengers or would be happy to join another bunch with room. No offense to anyone but I can't ride with anyone smoking in the car. I have no problem going myself but it would be nice to at least follow the other vehicles.
*****To those who have attended these before, are we supposed to bring anything in the way of cake stuff or is it strictly a watch and learn thing?? The agenda looks exciting!
Dear ICES Friends,
Day-Of-Sharing
Hurrah! Its time again for the Fall Day-of-Sharing. Our day will be Sunday, October 21, at Cake Stuff, 8981 West Central, Wichita, KS 67212 (Directions and map to follow) 316-773-0510. Tayna Hearn has a great and full day planned for us. She has a great line up of demonstrators and I am sure we are all going to have fun and learn a lot. Since we will be having lunch on our own, the cost of the day will just be $10.00 per person, be sure to get your money in to reserve your spot. Also there will be several breaks throughout the day for you to do some shopping in Dees store, Cake Stuff , that is always fun and exciting. From Kansas City we will be carpooling from the Gardner, KS Wal-Mart. We will meet at 6:00 am (yes, am) in order to get to Wichita in time. Take I-35 South to exit 210. When you get to the end of the exit ramp, bear to your right. Go to the first stoplight, Cedar Niles Road, turn left and continue straight into the Wal-mart parking lot, it will be on your right. We will park in the northeast corner of the lot. Please call or email me if you would like a ride or to drive.

CarolAnn, thanks for the information. Is there a registration form somewhere that we need to print out to send? I hope you don't need to be an ICES member either! I guess I need to go to their website to see what it involves to sign up. I really want to go!!
Thanks! I did see your post with all of your wonderful info. I'm so computer illiterate at times that unless it has a place that says "click on here to print" I'm lost! But, I'll figure it out!!
I'm also hoping someone can tell us if we need to bring anything and if so, what?
CarolAnn, Thanks for keeping this thread going! I went to the ICES website and didn't see anything mentioned about this DOS
I've not done anything that I sell, but I'd love to take part - would be a great learning experience for me - plus getting to meet everyone. I live in OK, but am 1 hour south of Wichita. I work in Wichita when I have to be on-site for my job, so am there most of the time anyway.
I'm not an ICES (national or state) member yet, but would like to be able to do that soon.
If anyone hasn't been to Cake Stuff, bring your $$$$ - there's lots of great stuff there!!!
Just let me know...
Thanks.
Thank Sewsweet2, she got the info to me. I'm also wondering if we need to bring anything. It looks like the time will be pretty well filled though. I'm just excited to have something to go to, and to meet some ccr's!
Any CCr's out been to a DOS? Do we need to bring anything? Okay then, let's get right down to it, where do we go for lunch? I'm not bringing a pocket full of $$ to shop but "GOT LUNCH?"
Hi, MimiFord and neighbors to the north (I'm a Carol Ann, too)
Oklahoma ICES' fall DOS will be in Oklahoma City on November 11. Early registration has been extended through the end of October. Send me a PM or email to [email protected] and I'll send you the registration information including a map. We'd love to have you join us!-Carol
CarolAnn.... you are fabulous!! My buddy Cassie and I will be there.... we're riding down from KC. ....
hmmm.... lunch.... anyone from Wichita know of a good place thats close????
Road Trip to the "KS-DOS 07" starts in 13 days and counting!! WOOT!!
CarolAnn: Thank you so much for prsueing this. I don't know if any of us would have know about this if it wern't for you. ![]()
I think it would be fun for all of the CC'ers to get together for lunch. I guess it depends on what everyone's budget is on where we could go. If anyone has any ideas or is even intrested in this then speak up and we can see what we can get together.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you this weekend at the Wichita DOS. I am the organizer for this DOS and posted the announcement for the get together, but hardly no one went to my post
I was upset thinking no one was going to show up! I did a forum search (my first), and found this thread. I am a newbie to posting so I think I may have posted the announcement in the wrong area. Sorry for all the confusion and for the lack of information.
The DOS will be this Sunday, October 21st from 9 - 5. We will be serving Krispy Kreme Donuts and coffee for breakfast. We will have breakfast/fellowship from 9-9:30 and the demos will start after that. We will also be serving cheesecake and drinks for the afternoon snack. Here's what the final demo schedule looks like:
ICES Day of Sharing
Wichita, KS
9:00-9:30 IceBreaker time (breakfast/fellowship)
9:30-9:45 ICES News and Conference Update (Cathy Hanson)
9:45-10:45 Sugarveil Demo (Karen Kidder/Tanya Hearn)
10:45-11:00 Break
11:00-12:00 Chocolate Bottles & Butterflies (Glenda Stockwell)
12:00-1:00 Lunch-On your own
1:00-1:45 Santa Cookies (Cathy Hanson)
1:45-2:00 Break
2:00-2:30 Wedding Cake Contracts/Paperwork (Dee Means)
2:30-3:15 Cymbidium Orchids and berries (Glenda Stockwell)
3:15-3:30 Break
3:30-4:00 Cake Tips and Tricks (Anne Barfoot)
4:00-5:00 Christmas Flowers (Karen Kidder)
There are many delicious restaurants in the area and we always have a great time of fellowship over food ![]()
You do not need to be a member of ICES to attend and you only need to bring some paper if you want to take notes (some demonstrators will have handouts you could write on) and some business cards to share with the other members. I am asking that if possible we bring fall/winter cake pictures or your portfolio for everyone to swap ideas.
If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to help. Again, sorry that I posted the original announcement in the wrong area. Hope you all will be able to attend.
Tanya Hearn
I'll be there!!! Thanks to Cathy Hansen I got hooked up with a Cake Club this week. I'll even be riding down to Wichita with some of the gals from the club. I'm excited!!!!! I'm so looking forward to meeting all of you CCr's there! I'll be putting my cc name on my name tag, if we have them. See you there!!
Hey Ladies!!
I'm so sorry I didn't make it to Wichita today. I've had one of the worst weeks of my life, as my grandfather, who was my best friend, died. To make things a hundred times worse, my husband and I got caught in a horrible downpour, locked out of our hotel room in Arkansas while there for the funeral. I got horribly sick, and came home with a cold. So much for going back to work. I might have been able to get to Wichita today, but I just got home last night and still was feeling horrible.
I hope everyone had a lot of fun, and let me know how it went. I'm sorry I missed everyone.
I'm sorry you missed it!! We really had a nice time meeting each other! The day was full of so many great demonstrations! Everyone was so friendly and we had a great time. So sorry to hear about your Grandfather. I hope you're feeling better soon! Hopefully, we'll get to have another DOS in Wichita and you'll be able to come!
I'm so disappointed that I found this thread when it was too late! It sounds like it would have been a great time, and informative to boot. I'm a complete amateur at all this, but I have been really getting into it. I work one of those soul-numbing cube jobs as my 9-5, and decided I needed to find a way to let loose my creative energy. I'm so much happier since I've started playing with cake! I'll be on the lookout for these events now... ![]()
I had a great time at my first DOS. The demos were great and I was soo impressed with "Cake Stuff" I could hardly control myself. All of a sudden the neat place I get my supplies looked pathetic. I want to start learning to make gum paste flowers now more than ever, and I plan to order some sugar veil asap, so I can use it for the holidays.
I was so happy to finally meet some ccr's. I met Poohbear and Frogleggs and another neat lady that I had lunch with and can't remember her name. I hope she'll see this and PM me, she's from Salina. I had such a great time and can't wait for another opportunity to get together.
I know there were other ccr's there that I didn't meet. We came in late and everyone was seated and I just felt so dern conspicuous. I was trying to see everyone's name tags as I came in, it's a wonder I didn't fall over some one or thing getting to my seat. If there were introductions I missed them. I hope no one thought I was rude. I'm a little shy in certain settings and well, my plan to stand on a chair (or table) and announce I was there to meet CCr's fell thru. It's the whole coming in late and walking in with all eyes on you thing. Okay, I'll stop now..................
But I hope to hear what others thought of the DOS in Wichita.
I had a wonderful time at the day of sharing. I also didnât get to meet as many people as I wanted to. We will have to do it again! We did pass around a paper to give our email addresses if we were interested in forming a local cake club. If thereâs anyone interested that wasnât there, PM me your address and Iâll send it to Dee (owner of Cake Stuff).
I was really excited to see the SugarVeil demo- as soon as I got home I ordered some from the SugarVeil website. Unfortunately, I received an email on Tuesday stating that due to high demand it is on back order and wonât be shipped for three to four weeks. I was really disappointed because I wanted to use it for a gingerbread house competition that is due mid November.
So I looked on line to see if any retailers sold it. I found two, and one of the sites had a notation that they were out of it and it was on back order. The other site was Sugarcraft! Out of curiosity I emailed them to see if it was in stock and they sent this reply: âAt this time we have a LOT of it. Their machinery broke and they say they may have to go out of business because the part cannot be replaced.â Oh no! I wonder if this is true, and I wonder why they have âa lot of itâ and I wonder if I should order it from them!
I called the 800 number listed on the SugarVeil website but nobody answered and I couldnât find an email address on their website. Iâm at work now. When I get home, Iâll reply to their email and ask about this.
Has anyone else heard anything about this? Sorry this post is so long!
I spoke to Dee and she explained that Tanya (cc user frogleggs, who posted above) is actually the one collecting the email addresses. The club would be organized after the holidays during the first of the year.
Tanya, I've PM'd you an email address this morning. Thanks so much for organizing the DOS in Wichita. I had a great time and learned so much!
Linda
Linda,
I did get the email info you sent me concerning the Wichita Cake Club. I am so excited about us getting one started. I am going to post on CC to let others know we are starting one and to see if there are others that would like to be a part of it also. I so enjoyed meeting all of the wonderful ccer's that were at the DOS and hope to see you guys again! I am hoping to have our first cake club meeting at the end of January/First of February to give everyone a break from the Christmas holiday.
Tanya
