Hey everyone! I'm considering trying out making a shoe...but I wanted to know if anyone has done it with fondant... I'm not really familiar with gumpaste and if fondant would be a suitable alternative, I'd like to try that... thoughts?

I just made my 1st shoe and I did it with a mixture of fondant and gumpaste. Gumpaste is just like fondant. I have the mix from michael's. You add a bit of water then mix it into your fondant and it makes the shoe or any decos much more sturdy! Plus it dries super quick good if you are in a pinch!

I would add at least some gumpaste to it. it will dry harder and more quickly. You can just add tylose powder to regular fondant.

Gumpaste isn't just like fondant. Completely different things.

Well I wouldnt say they are completely different things, but they have different uses. Fondant remains softer. If you are making decorations that you want to dry really hard, it is not the best choice. It takes a long time for it to dry. Fondant is a better choice for things that will be eaten. Gumpaste is not eaten. Unless maybe your dog or 2 year old gets ahold of it LOL! It will dry pretty quickly and you have less working time with it. But again, it dries really hard and is much more stable. So for your shoe it would be a better choice. Sometimes a mixture of fondant and gumpaste is nice when you want a little more working time.
