I've recently started doing cakes for family members and have found all of you here on Cake Central to be invaluable. I thought I would post some pictures of the two cakes I've done most recently. I've not taken any classes or had any training - just used the tips I've picked up from this site! The first is the cake I did for my niece's baptism. This was a challenge because I had to make it (and 4 sheet cakes) at my house and transport them all 200 miles in 90-degree heat. It's not exactly smooth, but at least it didn't sink or slide! The second cake is one I did this past weekend for a friend's 3-year-old son's birthday party. Tow Mater is sculpted from pound cake and sits on a 9x13 base of strawberry cake. I really enjoy making these and hope that I can improve my techniques as I go along! I'm making 2 cakes for 2 vow renewals this weekend - they are recreations of the brides' original wedding cakes. Wish me luck!
