does anyone send along something that advises the customer on the shelf life of the cake, refrigerated or stored at room temperature? I am always afraid that they will not eat the leftovers quickly enough that the cake/frosting may go bad? Am I being paranoid?

I just bake for family and friends...

However, the bakeries and the wedding shop where I purchased my older son's cake didn't provide any info either written or verbal with my purchases.

Neither do the Costco, Sam's or Jewel.

So I guess what I'm saying is no - they don't send anything extra to advise on storage.

However, the retail chains have a list of ingredients which can be referred back to. And the original storage method where the item was purchased would be a good indicator of how the item should be stored, I would think.

Some of the retail stores have a best if used by sticker or stamp they use.
