I just found out that there is a contest in a (somewhat) nearby county fair. I am not familiar with this at all, and I'm trying to decide whether I should enter in the general category (age 13+, which seems like cheating going against teenagers) or the advanced category. The advanced category states "foreign techniques are acceptable" and that "tulle, dummies, wiring, etc are permissable". Can anyone comment on what "foreign techniques" could possibly mean? It sounds like if I want to do anything 3D, it would probably have to be in the advanced category. And they're limited to only 2 tiers! I have an idea to do a 3D guitar, standing up. That will be higher than 2 tiers (because of the neck), but I don't know if i'd be disqualified because of that (neck would be made out of rice crispy treats and a support).
I'm so confused!

I looked at your gallery, IMHO you need to compete as an advanced artist, most especially if you are entering a sculpture because it is advanced decorating.
If you sculpt and entry make sure to follow the rules. I probably wouldn't do a guitar because of the height restriction.
Foreign techniques can include: Lambeth, South African, Australian & Nirvana (i.e. collars and panels.)

wow, i'm honored to be thought of as "advanced". I actually changed my design, and I'm making a sweet 16/quinceanera cake with pillows, a pair of shoes and a tiara. I'm very excited about it
