OK.. the cakes are beautiful but.. $99 for a 8x4" cake that serves 10 people... or a 7" square for $174... icon_surprised.gif I have seen better cakes on CC .

I totally agree! But, the prices match their known reputation. icon_wink.gif I agree that CC has wonderful cakes and much better priced I'm sure!!

Anyway...had to share with you all because it was a real surprise to me. I would like to copy a few that I saw, so maybe they will serve a purpose for me afterall! thumbs_up.gif

I didn't get much farther than that black forest torte for almost $200! For an 8"? Are they crazy?

(Actual thought: I can make that - if I could get $200 for that cake, I'd make them ALL FREAKIN' DAY!)

Thanks for the link - you're right, there's some great ideas there.

But I had to laugh when I saw $50 for Kringle. LOLOL Just order it direct from Racine Wisconsin and pay that for 3 or 4 of them, including shipping!!!

Me either! Glad to know I'm not the only "poor" girl on the block here! LOL!! Actually...I am quite blessed but hope I would have more sense than to spend my money like this even if I had more than I do! icon_wink.gif

This is where we have an advantage...we can make our own and not HAVE to pay those prices and still get a nice end product! I thought everyone would like to see the cakes for ideas at least. icon_smile.gif

OH!! One more thing, I thought you might enjoy looking at the "Gourmet Pops" (link below). Wouldn't this work for CAKE BALLS??

By the way, IGNORE the prices! As I stated before, I don't shop here but wanted to share this link for ideas. I think there are some very cool cakes/cookies on this site for ideas...that can be made WAY cheaper for sure! icon_wink.gif

If the above link doesn't work, try this one:

how do you think they make those cheesecake bites on a stick? use a melon baller and dip or use a mold? I like the idea of these.

I saw them made on food network. I think it road tasting. After the cheesecake is baked and cooled you break it up in a bowl and mix it until it can be piped, the you pipe balls in sert the sticks, then chill them. After they are chilled you dip them it the chocolates and nuts or whatever topping you choose. I'm doing these and cake balls for Thanksgiving. I hope this helps.

yeah, that does help! I want to try this method and also another one I read. You bake a cheesecake and then freeze it, take a mellon baller and scoop out the cheesecake put a stick in it and then roll in the fixins you want. I really like the ideas of these little cheesecakes, can you tell icon_lol.gif

I was watching Road Tasted on Food Network Sunday and saw that the Alaska Silk Pie Co. makes some of the cakes for Neiman Marcus. For example you can buy the Key Lime Silk from Alaska Silk for $27 or from Neiman Marcus for $50. Of course you know they have to make a profit but anyone who knows would go straight to the source I would think.

Her story is kind of inspiring if you read her home page.

Amazing markup, isn't it? WOW! I think MANY on CC are just as (or even more) talented as anything I was oohing and awwing over on Neiman Marcus' web site. So....I think these definitely can be re-vamped by us and for much cheaper. thumbs_up.gif

that alaskasilkpie web site is making me hungry! I could never make a dessert like those for that amount of $, I'd go broke.

Well, one thing to remember too is that larger bakeries like this order in large quanities and at a discounted price...so it is different from us home bakers who buy retail...the profit margins differ because of this.
