Has anyone ever seen or used this before? It looks really cool. I just wonder how it would ice?

I have used this pan a number of times. There is a picture of a beach cake in my photos with it. In my experience it would be very difficult to frost. Lots of tiny indents in the cake. Also you need to use a dense cake batter, like a pound cake, for this to hold up properly.

I used that pan for my friend's wedding shower (the wedding was in Hawaii, but she didn't want a strictly hawaiian theme). I chose simply to play up the sand-castle look of the cake and didn't bother with icing. I used the pound cake recipe that came with the pan and offered sliced strawberries on the side. Here's a pic:

I was just at Linen N Things tonight and they have this pan. It looks neat but I think it would be hard to decorate. They also had one that had assorted mini cakes and one that is a stadium.

I think the icing would have to piped on in order to go on well. Maybe pipe each stone/flatsurface with a flat tip and smooth with Viva and then go back and do all the detailing. Or you could do all stars, but I would want it smooth...

HTH,
