Okay, I went to the store and purchased some pure orange extract because I wanted to make a chocolate cake with orange flavored buttercream but now I am nervous. Will the orange taste okay in the butter cream. DO I need to add vanilla too. I have butter, vanilla, lemon, almond, and orange flavoring. What should I use..... Help Me!!!

I love the flavors of chocolate and orange together. I'd suggest that you add just the tiniest (is that a word?) bit of extract and a bit of vanilla to a small amount of BC and taste it-some extracts have a sharp taste. I'm sure others here can give you more advice on different brands. Ive used Grand Marnier (liqueur) in BC for an orange flavor-it's yummy IMHO!
Good luck icon_smile.gif

Mmmm...chocolate and orange, one of my favourite combos! I would add maybe 1/2 tsp vanilla just to enhance the orange flavouring. I find too that the orange flavour intensifies as it rests in the buttercream so go with the motto that a little goes a long way.

Enjoy!

I just made an Orange cake tonight. I plan to mix heavy cream, butter, PS, tad vanilla, and the new jello "Tropical Fusion" for the filling/mousse. Cover it with very light just-a-hint flavor of chocolate buttercream on the outside. Decorate it up all cute and donate it to the grade-school carnival here.

So yea, go with orange buttercream. But keep it light since the other is heavy.

Let us know how it works out. thumbs_up.gif
