How To Make My Fav Buttercream Rec. Chocolate?

What's the best way to take my favorite buttercream recipe and make it chocolate - should I experiment with adding cocoa powder or chocolate extract or should I just find a whole new chocolate buttercream recipe that crusts???
I just use my regular recipe and add a few tablespoons of cocoa powder (I dont really measure, just taste 
until I get the desired flavor and color. I prefer the dark dutch processed variety by hershey over the regular kind however.
