Okay,

Am I being punished for something? Has anyone ever had this happen? icon_confused.gif I have been busy baking for the last month and had accumulated a rather large tub of cake scraps to make several batches of cake balls. Well, I arrived home the other night from work only to find that my husband and son had decided to clean all the leftovers out of the refrigerator icon_mad.gif including throwing out my cake scraps! icon_cry.gif I could have strangled them!!! All my wonderful cake scraps down the drain. Needless to say, now I'm the only one with the executive authority to throw stuff out in the kitchen.

I'm sorry you lost your cakes scraps. I sure wish my husband would clean out the fridge, though! I have to tell him not to eat stuff because I have no idea how old it is.

Jsmith,

I wouldn't be this upset but they NEVER clean the refrigerator. It's me that always has to do it. So, it doesn't console me that they put forth the effort. All was lost when the cake scraps got scrapped.

It sounds like a cover up to me LOL!! they ate the cake scraps FIRST..then covered their tracks!!! Just kidding.

I had a cake fall apart on me last month, so I put the scraps into a storage bucket and into the fridge. I told DH about it and a few days later he came looking for it!! It was kinda funny seeing him with this "bucket o' cake". He loved it though because it had frosting and filling too. BTW..He didn't share a crumb! NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF CAKE SCRAPS!!.

I agree with rezzycakes, it sounds like a story to me! My hubby loves the tops I cut off when I level my cakes, well so do I, and he doesn't quit till they're gone. I don't have much to clean out of my frig except around the holidays but I'd faint if my hubby actually cleaned out the frig. I pretty much know hat's in there too so if something went missing I'd notice. LOL Between me, dh, dd, my sister and two granddaughters my scraps never get to the frig.

I'll have to tell my husband I'm not the only one. icon_redface.gif
I think the husband is covering his tracks since I don't know anyone who likes to clean the fridge and men never do that stuff.

Well my husband cleans my fridge but he is a super clean person. When my mom comes to town and stays over he always dumps her cups out before she even gets to drink anything. He is bad about always throwing things away and some times I get frustrated too. He also thinks that food in the fridge is good forever sick huh. So I have to take the old food and feed it to the dogs before he gets a chance. But I know if I had scraps in the fidge he would dump it. So I have decided that when I want to make cake balls to just make a cake specially for that.

I think we have our very own CC conspiracy theory!! It does sound like a story that my husband would make up to hide the fact that he just had a really yummy snack! icon_lol.gif

Boy, if my Hubby cleaned the fridge for me(including washing any dishes that he emptied) I would give him a whole bucket of cake scraps and a kiss as a reward. lol

Okay, from the sound of it, I've got a strange husband. My hubby is a white glove inspection clean person. He couldn't stand to see so many leftover containers in the fridge even if they were edible or not. dunce.gif

I just have one question. How long are cake scraps good for? I see you have been saving them for month and I had no idea that would still be good.

Anyone know how long they are good for? I've thrown some out only because they were a few days old and I had not had a chance to make them up. Was I wrong?

Joanne,

I was going to make them this weekend for a function at my hubby's job. I had them in an airtight container in the back of the fridge. Our fridge tends to freeze things that sit toward the back so, they were semi frozen and still good for use. icon_sad.gif

Similiar. My DH "bucket o' cake" had been in the fridge for about 5 days. It was still good and moist too.

I try not to let my dh in the fridge, because he would throw it all away, too. He doesn't do leftovers at all! He thinks anything over 2 days old is rotten, even in the fridge.

JoanneK - most of the cake scraps are good for several days, even out on the counter. I freeze mine to make cake "truffles", just in case my schedule gets messed up.

Oh my gosh, I am laughing so hard right now at the thought of a very happy person with a "bucket o' cake". I can only see the delight he probably had on his face when I found out about it, lol.

I am a major chocoholic and was needing chocolate very badly the other day. I was looking for something else in the freezer and low and behold, I found Easter candy I had "hidden" from hubby so he wouldn't eat it before the baskets were made. I thought I was in heaven when I found that stuff, lol. icon_lol.gif

bakeQueen:
You are not alone. My husband is the same way. I was at school an extra hour the other day. I came home; he had cleaned the whole house & started on the carpet. He is former military. I love it. His help in cleaning gives me more time for homework.
I agree, he would have eaten the scraps. He would have said some thing like" I ate them , so they wouldn't go to waste."
