Ok, I'm losing my sense of humor.

I have been wanting to go to OSSAS for a while now. I promised myself I'd go this year. Not being delusional, I didn't enter the wedding cake competition, but instead just the regular sugar art show in the tiered category.

I swear I'm going to throw this damnable thing through the window pretty soon. I've got 3 hexagon dummies. I have covered the bottom one in fondant and airbrushed it at least 5 times. I've done the middle one at least twice. I'm making karate weapons out of fondant, and I've re-done those so many times I want to stab myself with them. I can't get them to look right. And I hope they dry hard so I can sand them, because there is just no getting the finish smooth. I need to make a samurai sword and wrap a black belt around the top tier, and I'm starting to wonder if it will ever get done. I've been screwing around with this stupid cake for months now, and I'm convinced that I never should have entered this blinkin' contest!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gif

I can't even tell you how many times I've redone that sword, and that's not even including the hilt or other decorative touches....just the blinkin' body!!! icon_twisted.gif

Ok.....I feel better now. Thanks.....

Now, are any of you going to the show? I'm signed up for Pam Archibald's class after. I'd love to meet some CCers there, if you aren't thinking I'm some sort of mental nutcase by now!

I am sure that you are making a great cake. It will be worth all of the hardwork and time once you see it there at the competition. Good Luck

I'll be there. I'm not sure yet if a cake will be entered by me or not. If so, it won't be the wedding portion either. I've yet to finish baking my layers(it's to be a carved one). I've got the sketch and the plan but that's as far as I've gotten.

I'm going regardless.

There is another thread where all the CCers who plan to attend are going to be wearing pink shirts with a green ribbon on it....those that wish to be identified that is.

Okay, I hope you don't think I'm insensitive...but I laughed out loud when reading this...I REALLY wish I was close enough to go to the show-I would LOVE to meet you! icon_biggrin.gif
The last cake I did took me so long, if it had been a paid cake I would have made about 15 cents an hour icon_mad.gif It was a mermaid cake for my grandaughter. I started over so many times on the stupid mermaid I thought I was going to lose my mind. My fingers cramped, my eyes burned, and I continued to squash her torso and start over-her arms never did match icon_evil.gif I couldn't even bring myself to post a picture-that's how much I despise the cake...And now I have a collection of miniature body parts in my cake pantry-my grandchildren are sometimes afraid to look icon_eek.gif
Anyway I can't wait to see your finished cake-it sounds great! And good luck in the competition thumbs_up.gif

Thanks, guys! I do feel better for venting. I'm going to work on the piping today, I think.

I'll check out the other thread if I can find it, and see if I have any pink shirts. I can't wait to meet you guys!

kjt, you are too funny!

Deep breaths girlie! It will turn out great!

Have you tried the gumpaste recipe by Nic Lodge? I recently made it for the first time and LOVED working with it. It might be perfect for making your weapons. It is as smooth as silk! I made the cradles in my pics using it. It was fantastic to work with.

No, I haven't tried that, dodibug, but I might do that this week if I can find the recipe and ingredients. Thanks for the tip!

Here's the recipe:

Duh! I should have given it to you to begin with! The only thing you have to get your hands on is some tylose. The other things are stock items!

Thanks! I found the recipe and made it. It seems REALLY stiff right now, though I followed the instructions to the letter. I had a lot of powdered sugar left over in that cup.... just how stiff is this stuff supposed to be? I need to bring 2 colors of gumpaste to Pam Archibald's class after the show, I hope I'm making it right. I'd hate to bring unusable gumpaste to class.

it's resting in the frig right now, I hope it will seem better tomorrow, 'cuz I need to remake my stupid weapons AGAIN. And the hilt for the sword.....grrrr icon_mad.gif

I hope to meet you guys there! I'm so excited, apart from this stupid cake...

BWAAAHAAAAHAAAA icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif OMG NO!!! That would be an even bigger debacle than this stupid cake!!

I think I'm in semi-pro, because of my business. I think it said averaging less than 35 cakes per year? Just going on memory....but I was right around 30-40 cakes per year, so I figured that would be the right division according to the rules. Of course, I feel like a novice, and I've never had any classes, so I wanted to enter as a beginner!! But I couldn't without cheating. Sigh.....gonna get my A** whooped. icon_rolleyes.gif But I just HAD to enter something if I'm driving 12 hours to get there, know what I mean?

So Moydear-

Are entering as a pro? Sorry about your cake hell.... based on your photos, you are going to have one hell of a great cake for the wedding cake competition. I can't wait to see it!

Someday I hope to enter that contest. Just didn't have it in me this year.

You must be sooooo busy!

I am a Semi Pro and I had a huge wake up call last year. I have no classes. By classes they mean Nick Lodge type classes. Anyway I have put a bit more effort in this year. Lets hope I keep it up until the day I leave!

If you had a huge wake up call with those cakes, I am in SERIOUS trouble. My cake has no hope of looking as good as the 2 in your gallery from previous years. Your skill is so far above mine! I really should be in the beginner division.

Maybe I don't have to stand next to it.... icon_redface.gif Too late to back out now...already paid the entry fee.

Not to worry, girl, you are going to do great.

I've just made it the one time but I didn't even mess with it until the next day and it does take a while to come to room temp. I'm sure it will be fine for you! icon_smile.gifd

You will be fine! We just go for the experience right... wink!
The judges were hard last year in wedding!

Yeah! Right....the experience....sure...

Kidding. icon_lol.gif I really did just do it for that. Just had a moment of "Oh, sh*&, what did I get myself into?" Thanks for reminding me why I'm doing this. I really am looking forward to it. Wonder if I'll see anybody famous there?

Plus....I'm all alone with the kids this week while DH is visiting his mom and doing chores around the house. I'm supposed to be on vacay and this sucks eggs. So while I'm in Oklahoma, I'm going to have fun, and the best part will be knowing he's at home with the kids and has to go to work, too!

Yep! I'm evil.... icon_evil.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
