I've got my first official cake order and it's for german choc. cake with coconut pecan frosting. I heard that there is a fantastic german choc. cake recipe from the cake mix doctor. Anybody willing to share? ALso, if you happen to have a no-fail coconut pecan frosting recipe. I could use that, too!

Thanks!

I've always used the coconut pecan frosting from the Baker's Sweet German Chocolate Sqaures box. It is the green Baker's Chocolate square box.

I don't have a box here though to look it up. icon_sad.gif

From the Cake Mix Doctor

The change I make is to add 1 melted bar of Baker's German Chocolate (cooled) at the end. This makes it very rich and moist! Besides, you need to Baker's German Chocolate for the frosting recipe. It can't be beat - but needs to be cooked a bit longer than the 12 minutes it says - I cook for about 20 - until it turns golden and thick enough to coat the back of your spoon - then beat it like crazy (by hand).

1 pkg DH German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Bake at 325 degrees. For 2 9 inch round pans, bake for 32-34 minutes, until the cakes sping back when lightly pressed with your finger.

How much is "1 bar"? Is it the whole box?

I think she means one square (1 oz) of chocolate.

No, I mean the whole box. I think it's about 6 oz., maybe 8.

Thank you for posting that recipe Tiffysma. Especially for the tip about adding the extra chocolate. I finally got a chance to make it and it was wonderful. My mom kept saying it was the best German chocolate cake she'd had. Well, maybe moms have to say that but I still thought it was great. I will be using it for a grooms cake next month. Thanks again! icon_smile.gif

Actually the tip about adding the melted German Chocolate is my mother's trick. Thanks, Mom!

melt the chocolate by itself and add to the batter at the end of the mixing.
