I'm trying to make a tree. The frame is made from copper and stands over 2' tall. One long pole with two branches coming out. I thought I would put rice crispies around it then cover in fondant or candy clay. I'm not sure how to do it. Any suggestions out there.

I tried to wrap the rice crispies around the pipe but they fell right off. Maybe they didn't set enough but how do I get them to stick to the copper pipe. Should I be using something different?

Please help me out on this one. Any advise you can give me will definately be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hmmmm...I think I would try wrapping Saran Wrap around the pipe, not too smoothly, and maybe taped here and there with masking tape. Lettting your RKT get a little stiff before using may help, too. Are you planning on serving the cake, or is it for display?

I know that royal icing will stick to masking tape. So, maybe try putting masking tape around the copper and then put on whatever medium you are using. Test a small area and see if it will work.

Duff used molding chocolate I think for his tree, but it's been awhile since I watched the episode.

Thanks your input is greatly needed. The tree itself will not be eaten. There will be three cakes sitting on top of it. Two of the cakes will be eaten one is just extra. (To make it look nicer)

kjt, never even thought about putting plastic wrap underneath. Do you think it will be fine with a layer of rice krispie treats over it and then the fondant or modeling chocolate?

KittisKakes - I reallly want to stay away from the royal icing as I want to reuse the stand when I'm done. But I w/ill save that for my last resort if nothing else works.

I really like the modeling chocolate and I can't get my fondant that dark brown. I guess I have a few weeks to experiment.

thanks for all your imput.
