Does anyone know if you can just use the wilton gel colours diluted with vodka to use in an airbrush?? I am looking to get one with the compressed air can to try my hand at it.
Does Michaels sell special edible paint for airbrush guns? Thats my only resource. I need to airbrush Black.
Going shopping this afternoon to use my 50% off coupon at michaels. Yeah!!!

I wouldnt try the gel. Americolor and kopykake have airbrush colors. They are special made for airbrushes. The gel even if you thin it would probably clog your airbrush.

this is true,
gel colors are mostly "pigments" means that it's dry powder mixed with a medium in this case gel to get your colors.
Airbrush colors are filtered several times to get it the finest particles and also most airbrush colors are made with staining colors or dyes as it were. That's why there aren't near as many airbrush colors as there are other forms.
You could if you were in a pinch use the diluted but you would get spatters and spits and would have to take the whole airbrush apart to clean out the residue. Not a pretty site I tell ya.
And on a side note hun; in the long run, it's much more economical to buy a small compressor (heck I've even seen people use aquarium compressors). than it is to buy those cans of air which when they start out could blow queen latifah off her feet and at then end just sputter like a spent bottle rocket. They are quite expensive to be honest. And not very consistent.

I agree with chaptlps- you should only use icing colors in a pinch. I was just in that pinch on Friday night! I was airbrushing my Buzz Lightyear face cake and the color was too dark...no problem, I'll just add some of my white Americolor Airbrush paint to the regular color....oooops...I used the last of it and it is still too dark icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

So, I tried experimenting...mixing vodka, americolor regular icing color, and some regular skin tone color.....Dear Gussy it was an ugly mess trying to get a consistency that would work!!!!! I came up on the winning side of things, but didn't go to bed until 3 am!!! Save yourself some time, trouble (and in my case a few choice words)- use the regular colors made for airbrushes.

Also, I paid less than $100 for a new Badger Dual Action airbrush on ebay. It would be well worth it to look into them. I have had mine for about 2 years now and I haven't had trouble with it and I used luster dust and super pearl in it all the time!!!

Good luck!!!
