How do I tone it down.

I am fixing a last minute cake for my sons teachers. I decided to do a raspberry filling. I was out of many ingredients to do as I normally do so I decided to add the raspberry preserves to my buttercream for a filling.

OMG! It is soo sweet. I am afraid that it will be too much, any idea how to tone it down a bit?

You would have to make some more buttercream and mix it together to thin down the raspberry preserves. When I use raspberry preserves for a filling, I mix it with the filling in a tube, so it's easier to spread. I do not mix it in with my buttercream, I just use very stiff icing for my dam.

It is sweet, but alot of times I have tasted fillings alone and not liked how they taste and then once they are in the cake they taste fine. Just put a thin layer and I think you will be fine. Don't forget they will be tasting cake, filling and icing all in one bite, not just the filling on a teaspoon.
