Many of you know, we recently moved built a new house and I was lucky enough to find a house that had this bedroom off the kitchen! So I had my builder make it into a decorating/bakery room. Right now, I have two GE Profile double ovens in my ktichen, and I have a bakery rack that I put my filled pans in, real it into the kitchen (next room over) and bake the cakes, then wheel them back, Everything else is done in the bakery room. I hope to eventually put an oven in there, but insurance and such makes it a costly and not fun task! This is working great so far, as I can hide in the room while my family is eating dinner or using the ktichen, or I want to work late into the night and it doesn't disturb anyone! I also put a small window A/C in so I could work at night in a nice cold room (I get so hot when I roll out lots of fondant!) and I don't have to freeze the rest of the family!

Anyway, enjoy the photos!

Oh, I am so jealous!!!! It looks wonderful!! Isn't it nice to have your own little room?! I took over the room that used to be the nursery (boys are 5 & 8 now in their own bedroom) to be my craft room where I keep my pans, boxes, pillars, etc. But my kitchen leaves a lot to be desired! My hubby & I have a plan that in 4 more years my kitchen will be redone, made bigger & made into a professional kitchen! I all but have the date marked on the calendar!!! Well, congratulations!!!

loriemoms - the best part about your room is......it's a separate room! Therefore, you can deduct that % of your mortgage on Schedule C, subform 8829, and that % of mortgage interest on line 16a of schedule C.
By percentage, I mean, take the square footage of that room and divide it by the square footage of the house. That percent is what you'll use for tax purposes.
Hope this is good news for you!!!!!

Wow!! It must be wonderful to have a separate room like that! I could have one, but the downside is that it isn't heated (converted porch to finished room, but done poorly and not by us) and I would freeze in the winter! LOL!!

I love those bins from Ikea. Do you remember what they were called or what section you purchased them in? I couldn't find them online. I can always use an excuse to head off to Ikea. icon_wink.gif

Thanks everyone! You are ALL welcome to come on over and decorate with me! Beleive me, I know what a lot of you are going through..my old house I took over the ktichen, the living room, the dining room, a bedroom and even the foyer! (full of pails of satin ice! hahaha) Thursday and Fridays my family had to eat carry out in the family as the kitchen was off limits! hahaha!

There is also one nice thing I have discovered about my own space..all the sugar dust and buttercream splotches STAY back there! I felt like my kitchen was constantly covered in sugar!

btw, the Ikea storage bins are some strange name (you know how Ikea is!) If you go over to the part of the store where they have plastic containers, that is where I found them. They are sold as recycle units and were DIRT cheap!

Oh, and the sink, cooling rack (which I JUST LOVE! You gotta get one, even if you don't have a seperate room. I can really pile alot of stuff on it, not just cooling cakes, but I use it to let gum paste things dry and stuff like that!) if there are any locals, I bought them at United Restaurant Supply. Fantastic place!!! I looked all over ebay for used and I did better buying new!

Happy decorating!

(PS and yes, business is bursting!!!)

I found them! They are called Sortera and are 8.99 and 12.99. That is awesome! They are also food-safe plastic.

I'm also envious of those with rolling racks! My dad is making a a tabletop shelf-like thing to hold 6 of the large bun trays. I can't wait until they are done!

Are those Ikea bins ant proof?

We are coming up on ant season and since we are on old fruit/nut orchards they come in mass to the homes and I'm looking for something that is ant proof and will keep them out of my bags of powdered sugar.

Your bakery room looks terrific.. congratulations!!

MichelleM77 - wow, so much cheaper in the US.. I just checked the Canadian website and they are 12.99 and 24.99.. what a rip off here.. since the dollar is almost at par... think I will go to seattle to buy them when I go down for black friday... love black friday...
I love the cooling racks, I bought one, then had to get another they are just so handy...

Bought both of mine of craigs list... cheap.. anyone looking for one should just check craigs list daily...

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread..

Again congrats... it looks fabulous

I am not quite sure, as ants seem to get into EVERYTHING! They don't seal tight, they are just regular drop lids..

The bins just like them that are made for restaurants are like 100's of dollars!!! And these are food safe, and very well made. The bigs one hold 25 lbs of flour and sugar. and 14 bags of 4 lb powdered sugar and one of them I have a 50 lb cube of the hi ratio shortening in! Sure is easier then trying to divide it up into containers.
