Not sure, but I think modelling paste is the UK term for fondant?
Modelling paste is usually called gumpaste. Sometimes it's a mixture of 1/2 gumpaste 1/2 fondant. The fondant is added to give you more working time and the gumpaste allows your piece to set up more quickly (fondant is too soft by itself).

I have seen various people ask what modeling paste is. I started using it last september 2006, it is use to make figurines. Think of it as edible Play Doe
. I use Ballina Modeling Paste, it has a Tutti Fruity taste. This is an Argentinian Product, but I know it can be obtained through the internet, I believe I saw it at www.pastrychef.com also, you can read more about it at www.ballina-sugarpaste.com they have other products.
Have fun being creative!
