How does it work when you use someone else's commercial kitchen? How do you get a license for doing that? Do they do inspections then??? I'm asking because I might get to work at a grocery store and the owner said that we might be able to work something out where I could make wedding cakes from his kitchen for people but I would need a license for that... I'm sure he's licensed but not sure if that would cover me as an employee... I also think that he would just want a pay cut of the wedding cakes (they wouldn't be through the store)... they only do cartoon image cakes through the store... if anyone knows how this works, please let me know! Thanks!
Congratulations! that seems like a really great situation!
I would check with your state Dept of Agriculture.
I know in NY state you need to have your business liscensed in any commercial kitchen you work out of - so in a similiar situation as yours- your business would need to be inspected at the Grocery store location and then issued a permit 'liscence" to work out of there ( in NY it is $200/permit and you need a permit for each location you work out of or rent)
hope that helps you in your research
Agree...check with the dept that handles that.
When I made an inquiry with my HD, they told me the kitchen renter would have to provide a floor plan of the kitchen and the HD would have to approve if the arrangement was ok. They said if the original kitchen is busy all the time or if it's not big enough for 2 operations, then they couldn't approve it.
