made a cake with a piece cut out and set on top of the cake? I am looking for guidance....how do you get the fondant around the "piece of cake" without it collapsing??? Also, how do you get the fondant around something that is triangle shaped?? icon_cry.gif

is it something that you can't cover each piece separately?? What kind of cake is it...maybe that would help to understand what you mean better?

I hope this works...I've never added a pic to my post before. Anyway, this is a pic of the cake I need to duplicate. I guess my question is how to put fondant on the cake slice??

Wow I have no idea maybe decorate it and then cut the piece you want out very carefully.

i guess it would be just like putting fondant on any cake, roll out a piece of fondant a little bigger than the size of the slice and lay it on top and smooth down the sides. i'm thinking the only issue would be the pointy end of the triangle in the front but maybe you can pinch the fondant together to seal and try to smooth it somehow. hope someone who has done this before can help you.

Thanks for all of your help guys! I didn't look at the picture well enough before I agreed to do this cake! Please, if you have any more tips I would appreciate them! I looked at the links someone had posted to cakes similar to this and they look GREAT!

I'm not sure if this is the right way, but I would roll out a rectangular length of fondant for the "cut" sides of the cake (cake & filling), then another for the "icing" part?
