Sorry. I don't know how to do it, but if you're using fondant i think crimpers would work well!

OH that sounds so so cute. What if you rolled your fondant really thin and pleated it really tight. Then maybe do buttercream zigzags over it. I can't wait to see that cake so please post pics when you figure it out.
Beachcakes,
do you know where to find those crimpers? I seen some on the tutorial the other day but I couldn't find them to buy. The guy made it look really easy to use. Knowing me though I could figure out some way to goof. lol

Here's two links that kind of look like you could use the same technique. Ecspecially on the first one. Those ruffles on the bottom of it you could just get really close together and then add string work. maybe? http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=search&search=dress&cat=0&pos=177&search=dress

If you look for patchwork cutters there is a smocking one. You jusp press it into the fondant

There was another thread on smocking, recently. Try typing "smocking" into the search at the left side of the screen. That may be able to help you.

Thanks. I will look out for the patch work cutters by Marion Frost. I got very good ideas from the search on smocking too. Thanks a lot.
