Is there an easy way to do this? When I use the Wilton plastic cutting tool to get straight strips of fondant, I always end up having to smooth each side with my fingers because it's left jagged edges.

Advice?

I had trouble with the plastic too. I started using metal which gave much cleaner edges.

Try rubbing crisco on the cutter before use.

also be sure to clean the cutter off after 1 or two cuts. I find that tiny bits of fondant stick to the cutter making the following cuts less smooth.

ETA: also, before lifting the cutter, giving it a little jiggle back and forth on your cutting surface will help smooth out those rough edges.

I have found the plastic cutter will not leave a nice clean edge. I use a pizza cutter for large items and I use a nice sharp exacto knife for smaller more intricate pieces. they leave a nice sharp, clean edge. If you do have an edge you want to smooth a little, dip your finger in a little powder sugar and rub the edge with your finger tip.
