I have two children - BJ who is turning 5 on December 14th and Sean who is turning 3 on December 29th. We just moved to Tennessee and don't know too many people in the area, and we're dirt poor. So - I've decided to combine their birthday parties this year. The thing is, I planned Sean's birthday cake about 6 months ago and although BJ's birthday theme is Buzz Lightyear's buddy and pal - Woody's Round-up - the Buzz Lightyear cake I've had planned simply can't be changed even slightly to add anything Woody.
I've designed 2 very elaborate cakes - one Buzz Lightyear and one Woody.
So - am I crazy to do 2 very elaborate cakes for a 3 & 5 year old's birthday party that may not have that many people there?

Do they have a ball pan that is smaller than the Wilton ball pan?
Rachel
There is a Wilton mini ball pan that makes 6 small balls. One cake mix makes approx 12 balls.

You do whatever makes you and your kids happy! If you want to make two large cakes, then go for it! I did a huge 1st birthday celebration for both of my kids, and a lot of my friends thought it was a waste b/c they won't even remember it. I will remember it though, and I like to do things like that for my kids. So what I'm saying is, you're not crazy to want to do great things for your kids. If you want to scale back the cakes and can come up with a good way to do that, then go for it. If you can't, then make the cakes you dreamed up and make new friends with the leftovers!
I have two girls Jessica 8 & taylor 7. I combined their parties last year. I made around 50 - 60 cupcakes. We had less thasn 20 people. I took home very few cupcakes. If you don't want to downsize your cakes. Cut bigger pieces. Most importantly; make sure you & the kids enjoy the party.
Here is a sketch of the cakes I want to make for the birthday party.

No its not crazy and my parents always did me and my sisters birthday together even if we werent dirt poor its always better to save money. And my daughters birthday didnt have a ton of people and I made two just because some people liked one kind and some liked the other and plus its always better to have to much rather then to little. It doesnt matter who is there as long as you and your sons are happy.
