I looked at Country Kitchens website and wanted to know if someone can tell me what "Pettinice" is? I use Wilton's Ready-To-Use fondant and have no problems with it. Just curious what the difference is between Pettinice and Fondant.
Thanks!!!

Pettinice is just another brand of fondant. It is about 1000 times better than Wilton.

Yes I agree Pettinice is much better. Wiltons has this wierd stringyness to it that drives me nuts, and Wiltons smells kinda like chemicals to me.

All I know is that Pettinice is what all my favorite cake decorators use. Toba Garret uses it - and she is just FABULOUS. I believe it is what Colette Peters uses as well.

I've used the chocolate before. I used it for my pirate ship cake, and it was a nice dark brown color and tasted like tootsie rolls. It was a dream to work with too! If I don't have time to make mmf, I'll use pettinice!

Thanks to all of you for clearing that up for me. I thought it might be another type or name for fondant, just wasn't sure. Bakels is just the producer/manufacturer of the pettinice?
Are "ChocoPan" and "Satin Ice" other manufacturers of fondant?

Hi

I use pettinice all the time for cake's and accent's. It is real easy to handle and taste really good. It work's nicely and when wrapped real good in plastic or kept in a ziplock bag it keep's for a really long time. The first fondant that I used was wilton's ( I did not know any better) and I would not use or inflict it on myself or other's. (lol)

I have used them all. I will never buy Wilton again, way too sticky. Pettinice and Satin Ice are just the same in my book, both are really good; easy to work with and taste good. Choco Pan is actually made with white chocolate and tastes wonderful, but it is much more expensive and since it is chocolate, it melts when you work it too much. I found that I had to be really fast rolling it out and had to use a thicker layer so it did not tear. I think modelling chocolate is better if you need a chocolate covering.

kats0196,

Have you ever found anywhere that sells modeling chocolate?

I did at one time, but I did not order it. If you do a search online you will find some for sale. It is so easy to make though, that I just do it myself. I would have to look up the amounts, but it is just adding corn syrup to melted chocolate and letting it set overnight.

Well, I thank all of you!!! After reading your entries, I'm going to buy some Satin Ice fondant this week - have a cake to do for next Monday. It's for my dentist's office and wanted to do a fondant cake with gumpaste flowers of some sort, haven't quite gotten to that idea yet....
Thanks again!!!!

cakedeco.com (Pfeil & Holing) have FondX, Pettinice and Satin Ice. Oh now what to get.... icon_smile.gif

Pettinice is good. but in my opinion, Satinice is the Cadillac of the fondant family. The taste reminds me of a marshmellow flavor, actually is very good.

See, I just can't take any fondant's flavor, even MMF. It's just too much sweet. I love to decorate with it, but I can't eat it.

of course, I don't like cake. I like pie. LOL
