Can anyone recommend how to pretty up a plain cake board without using fondant, royal icing or the silver/gold foil? Can it be wrapped with gift wrapping paper or something else? All thoughts and suggestions are appreciated. Have a Sweet day!

Shelving paper is a wonderful way to to cover a board. It comes in many colors and styles, is pre-glued, and is very quick to use.
If you use gift wrap, place a piece of clear shelving paper on the top of the board to prevent oil from being absorbed into the paper. Cut the clear shelving paper to the size of the top of the board only. Peel back a few inches of the backing and attach the shelving paper to one end of the board, then gently pull away the backing while pressing the shelving paper to the board. A ruler really works well to keep this smooth.
You can find shelving paper at Wal-Mart, most grocery stores, Dollar General or Family Dollar, and even at Linens 'n Things. Price varies. The cheaper stuff might be too thin and is extremely difficult to use.
Hope this is what you needed.

hey there-funny I was wondering the same thing! In the How Do I? forum there is a post with ALOT of different ideas. Some were:wrapping paper with clear contact paper over the top, or waxed paper over top, scrap book paper with clear something over top, celophane was another clear topper. Go to that forum it was an obvious topic, I just can't remember what exactly! GOOD LUCK
