I got an email from someone I don't know asking about a wedding cake for Sept. 29th with specific details. (I only do cakes through referrals).

Anyway...I tried to reply to ask him who I may thank for his referral and this is the message I got:

Open WebMail ERROR

Couldn't open SMTP server 127.0.0.1:25!

any computer geeks out there who could tell me what this means? Thanks!!!!

Not a geek here, but I googled " SMTP server 127.0.0.1:25 " and got a list of hits. Do the same and see if any of it makes sense to you.

Sounds more like a problem in the webmail than anything to do with the person who sent you the message. Especially since it said "Open WebMail ERROR" ... I would contact your email provider...

127.0.0.1 is the numerical address for your computer to talk to itself. AKA "localhost". If you got this error - it is probably a problem with the server sending mail. You may just want to try and reply again later and see if you get the same error.

I actually used another email account I have and it seems like it went through. I still might take the advice and "just forget about it"....I just got a strange feeling from the start and I know it's best to go with your gut feeling....

thanks everyone!
