I just got my first big order for a college event. They want me to sell 300 cupcakes iced with buttercream and maybe some sprinkles on it. I will be using cake mixes to make the cupcakes.
I needed some opinions about a few things:
1. They wanna pay me $.55 per cupcake. Is that enough to cover my expenses and labor charges? I feel like it is but I don't know how to calculate it or break down.
2. How do I transport 300 cupcakes?? ![]()
Thank you so much for your help! ![]()
.55 sounds pretty good since you're using cake mix. How about getting those cardboard coke flats from the grocery store. They will give them away. Probably just the right height. Just a thought

Making, baking, frosting, and decorating 300 cupcakes is going to be time consuming. I'm not saying don't do it because I think it is a great opportunity - just take a step back and think about the time this is going to take and if you are going to be compensated enough. Personally I think $.55 is way to cheap but that's just my opinion. Hope it helps.
WOW, thats alot of cupcakes. I to think that is to cheap. Cupcakes can be more time consuming than cakes. I guess if they don't want anything to elaborate it may be worth it. I would use regular cake boards and put a small amount of icing on the bottom of the cupcakes and they will stay in place.
I don't know. You are looking at laying out at least $40-50 in ingredients and utilities, which leaves about $120 for you. It takes me about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to bake and decorate 24 cupcakes, but I have a dodgy oven which means I can only cook on one shelf at a time (baking anyway!). If you can fit 2 or more cupcake tins in your oven then it will be quicker. I like to pay myself at least $10 an hour for my work, and $120 might just cover it. It'll be a long hard day though, so I would be happier with $200 (they are offering you $165, right?)! Good luck whatever you decide!
As for transportation , I don't know but I hope someone can help you!
