I have a birthday cake to make and I need to know what to do to make chocolate out of the vanilla for that half. They just want a small cake and I don't want to have too much left over (too tempting). TIA icon_smile.gif

Any ideas? I need to start on this PDQ and would like to be able to make the 1/2 and 1/2 cake without making 2 whole cakes. I want to be able to turn 1/2 the vanilla cake into chocolate.

I wish I could help you with the exact answer, but i do not have one. What I would do however is look up a from scratch recipe and see how much cocoa you would use for that. Then half it and add to the yellow mixture. I just looked at the recipes and for a basic chocoalte cake the person used 1 and 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa so I would use 1/2 to 3/4 cups depending on how chocolately you wanted the cake. I hope that this helps you.

The amounts sed2007 listed are correct...you might have to compensate just a little more liquid and maybe 1/8 cup more oil because of the chocolate. Good luck!!
