I'm a newbie at cake decorating. I started several years ago with grandkids' birthday cakes, and the last year I've actually had paying customers!icon_biggrin.gif

My question is: which color gel product do you use? I've always used Wilton 1oz gel colors. Are there better/cheaper gels out there?

Americolor, Americolor, Americolor! You'll never go back to Wilton.

Americolor are about the best I've used.....I still have some Wilton colors left that I'm using up (don't wanna waste them.) but I will NEVER buy anything else besides Americolor from now on......they require so much less coloring to make the color you're after....they have a much bigger range of colors that they offer including neon colors now.....and they're so neat and tidy and easy to work with....no more dipping toothpicks and all that mess on the lid of the wilton colors once you open them!

I would say Americolor as well. The squeeze bottles make it easier to control the amount of color that comes out.

Americolor has been the best - tried Wilton (yuck) and CK but Amercolor was great. NO bleeding and the colors are great.

Does anyone know why it is that whenever someone writes a brand name in a message it is deleted - unless it's Wilton! This is a good question (been wondering myself what other people find the best colours to use), but all of the replies here are now useless as the recommended names have been removed!

Sorry for moaning, other than this CC is fantastic, but I've seen it happening in a lot of posts and its VERY frustrating! icon_cry.gif

Its not deleted. there is something wrong in your settings.

The word Americolor should be appearing in blue and is clickable as a link.

Check your forum settings and make sure BBCode is allowed.

If it still isn't working, submit a support ticket via the HELP tab.

The reason the word WILTON does not do this is because we do not promote Wilton products here. Americolor products are available in the Cake Central Shop and that is why they become a link.

That is not to say we do not sell Wilton products, we just don't promote them over other brands.

Thanks Heath! I checked my settings and BB Code is 'on', so I have contacted the helpdesk.

Thanks again for setting me straight.

So it sounds like I need to use up my 18 bottles of Wilton color and invest in some Americolor! Thanks to all for your input!
