I can actually say I hate my cable company now. I have a cable DVR box (records shows from the tv), and I normally record shows from the Food Network onto dvds on my dvd recorder/player so that I can study the techniques used. Well, my dvr cable box had a meltdown worse than my son, and I lost everything on there. icon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gif

This included 6 cake challenges, a throwdown of Bobby Flay using chocolates and his wedding cake challenge, several "Sweet Dreams" episodes, and most importantly: 7 Ace of Cakes! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

The reason all of these were on the cable box is because I had been spending all of my time recording shows to send to my dh who is currently deployed overseas. So he got his shows and I lost all of mine! oh I am soooo mad right now I could spit! Lord help me that I don't curse too tapedshut.giftapedshut.gif (I never curse normally).

Sorry, just had to vent to someone who would understand. My gf just shrugged her shoulders and said "can't ya just catch the reruns?" Oh well.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww S**T I feel so sorry for you . Thankfully my tivo has never done this to me and I don;t know how pissed I would be if it did do it to me. It would probably go in the middle of the street and get smashed like the fax machine on Office Space lol........
i'm so sorry for you.

I've lost two hard drives in the last three years. One of those times, I was actually in tears. We spent $1200 on data recovery. I feel your pain. It will lessen with time. I can finally discuss it without getting that sickening feeling in my stomach. Sorry.

I am so sorry to hear this...I so feel for you. icon_sad.gif

My problem is that whenever I watch the food network, the volume goes on the TV and I get that snowy sound so I have to unplug the TV and plug it back in. It can happen 20 times in a 1/2 hour show. Doesn't matter if I have them taped and watching back on the PVR or actually watching the show. The cable company claims it is my tv that is the problem!

That sucks!!! We haven't had a meltdown with our DVR but it does sometimes have a "recording error" where it just doesn't tape something I wanted it to tape. So annoying!

I feel your pain. Ours just got struck by lightening and I lost everything. Both seasons of Ace of Cakes, all the cake challenges, platenum weddings (to see the cakes) and everyother cake show I could think of. Now I'm trying to start all over. Thank goodness for reruns!

What they should do is have the DVRs/tivos etc. come with a rewritable dvd drive so we can transfer those important cake shows onto a disc and then they wouldn't get lost and it would free up more space for taping!!

Just wanted to say that I'm sorry that happened. I have so many things in my DVR box..I'd be so upset if they got erased.
Also, this caught my eye cuz my hubby was in the Marine Corps for 13 yrs. and was in Iraq a few years ago. I just wanted to say hang in there with him being away and I don't know where he's deployed but whether its the Middle East or Hawaii...he's still serving our country and I wanted to say thanks to him for that. Please tell him and I pray he's safe.

Same thing happened to me. We went out and bought a DVD-R after that so that I could tape them onto a DVD and wouldn't lose them again. Every time the DVR burps, I get a little nervous and hurry up and transfer a bunch over before I lose them again! I lost a bunch of Carol Duvall shows that I had wanted to save. The good thing is all the shows on FN, TLC, HGTV, etc., eventually get played again in re-runs.
