Just finished my version of the food network cake challenge.
I had a customer show up today for a cake she had emailed me about.
I two emails she stated that she needed the cake on the 31st.
But showed up today and to my surprise thought I had a cake ready for her. I explained (with jaw hitting the ground icon_eek.gif ) that she had said she needed it tomorrow.
She was floored that she had goofed her dad's birthday dinner was tonight at 6pm.
So I looked at my watched and told her to give me directions to the dinner and I would do my best to have it there by 7pm it was the 4:30.
To make a long story not so short, I put on my version of the cake challenge and was able to make her the yankee stadium cake she requested with a few minor adjustments for time issues.
Now I really know how the decorators on the challenges feel when there is only 5 minutes left icon_surprised.gif

Thanks I will try to post a picture tomorrow.
I did not have time to take a normal picture, so my daughter took a picture with my cell phone as we were driving to deliver it, it is a little blurry but I wanted to capture the moment.

Wow! I can't believe you could do all that in such a short time. It still takes me that long to just bake a cake. icon_redface.gif

Great job on the cake! I can't believe you got it done!!! SUPERWOMAN watch out!!!

I'm so glad to hear about your success story because I just referred someone to you last week!!!! My really good girlfriend just moved to Sanford (her going away cake was the suitcase in my gallery) and I had given her your information and website right before she left so she could call you in the future. I stumbled across a posting in one of the forums and it said "sanford" on your ID, so I thought I'd hook you two up!!!!

Congratulations on pulling this cake off...hope she paid you a premium to turn it around!!!!!

Oh man. I totally feel for you! I used to do business with this woman who owned a party company. She would use me as her "cake guy" whenever one of her customers needed a cake to go with the party she was planning. It was a nightmare from day one.

Everytime I would take an order from her, she'd give me the wrong date. And I'm not talking, "I need it Saturday" and it turned out to be a Friday when she really needed it. I'm talking like she needed it for the 15th but told me the 31st!!

The first two times it happened I was pretty generous and forgiving because she was hooking me up with business. But it kept happening. I thought it was ME. I thought I was writing it down wrong. So I would write it down, then confirm it with her, then two weeks before the date I would call her and confirm it again. Sure enough....when I'd call and confirm the date she'd be like, "Oh nooooooo....I told you I needed it on the 15th." And I'd say, "No way!! You told me the 31st. I wrote it down. I confirmed it. You said the 31st." And she'd say, "Oops! I can't believe I did it AGAIN."

Well...long story short, the last straw was an order of 40 suckers for a ballerina party. My Sister does the suckers...I don't have time. So I give the lady the price, confirm the date and tell my Sister I have an order for her. On the day I collect the money I ask her again, "What date do you need these by again?" And she was like, "This Thursday." I lost it. "This Thursday?!?! That's two days from now!! You said you needed them NEXT Thursday. Here....look at my book. I wrote it down and even confirmed it with you!" "Oh...I can't believe I did it again. I'm really sorry."

I had no one to deliver the suckers so I had to do it. I had four cakes due that week that I had to take three hours out of my time to work on to go deliver the suckers. Needless to say we had some words.

I stopped taking her orders and she stopped calling me. She was truely unprofessional in my opinion and was either doing it on purpose, or was just completely unorganized!! I'm glad I was never one of her customers! I could only imagine their surprise when she showed up on their doorsteps two weeks early with her gear in tow for their parties!!!
