Does anyone have any great tips on how to get the look of animal hair on fondant cakes? Specifically, I'm curious about how to get a look like the rabbit's hair on the following link.

I don't think it was done with an extruder - - - but if it was, how do you think she kept the long strands so straight and smooth?

Also - - - how would you recommend doing the eyes?

I'm not really into realistic looking animal cakes, but I'd like to challenge myself to do something less "cartoony" and more realistic for a customer next week.

Any creative ideas?

Thanks for your help!

to me that looks like smooth fondant was marked or scored with a knife or veining tool.

I have her book with the rabbit in it. It's fondant that's been scored.

On the rabbit it looks like it was done with a knife, but the hair you can get that with a gun that has many discs, the one that I have it's a plastic one and I bought it from my teacher about 6 years ago. It's great, i love working with it. It looks like a large syringe and at the end you put the disc that you desire.

Too much cake is right, it is scored with a wheeled embosser tool and it is cut through at the edge to give the texture a dimension but only scored above. It is not extruded with a gun or extruder.

Thank you for your responses - - - I didn't think about using a wheeled embosser. I'm assuming this is the same tool as a a stitching wheel, except with the plain wheel attachment - - - am I right?

And ideas on how to do the eyes?

Thanks again for all of your help!
