I am a newbie to all this... so my question may be stupid???
When I am icing my cake, the icing seems to not want to stick to the cake then small crumbs of the cake lift off and end up getting mixed into the icing... what am i doing wrong???? I put more then enough icing on the cake before I start spreading it out.

I was using buttercream.

Please Help!

It sounds like your buttercream may be a bit thick. Try thinning it a little.

Hi and Welcome,

Determining the proper frosting consistency is very important, and does take time to learn. (At least it did for me.)

Here's info on frosting and filling cake layers:
