Just wondering to myself...if anyone has other hobbies that they participate in? I have been too busy recently to get to enjoy any hobbies. But, soccer season is over now and I hope to be able to read more! I love the Harry Potter book series (Goblet of Fire is my favorite one), and I am also reading the "Inheritance Trilogy" by Christopher Paolini. (I am anxiously awaiting the last book in each of these series).

My husband is an avid hunter, and as bow season is closing and gun season is opening soon, I should have some free time to get to do some things for myself! I also enjoy shopping, counted cross-stitch (though I haven't had time to do this in quite some time), and I love to sketch when I have inspiration to do so!

What hobbies do all of you enjoy?

I have several things that I like to do. One of them is refinishing furniture. This started when I was given a very sad looking dining room set. I totally stripped the table and chairs, refinished them, and covered the seats with new cushions and fabric. It looks absolutely nothing like it did before. I have also totally made over two dressers, also in very sad shape.

I also like to sew, concoct recipes, and build gingerbread houses. I would like to have travel as a hobby, but that takes money. icon_smile.gif

I enjoy scrapbooking and card making when I have the time.... sometimes, I just NEED to make the time to do the things I like (cake, cards...), so when I have the energy and the inspiration, midnight can be a fun craft time! But, oh, the morning is not nice to me! lol!

I had a feeling that cake decorators would be very creative people and enjoy some of the same things I do. My first love is quilting. I love most any kind of sewing I just got an embroidery machine for my birthday still learning on that one. I love to cross stitch also. I said the other day to someone. There is just not enough time in the day to do all the things I love to do and them dang household choirs are always getting in the way!

I love to cross stitch and scrapbook, someday I would love to pick up quilting. My DH is an AVID hunter too, and he wants me to go with. As I discovered tonight, waiting for deer in a blind is really a perfect time to work on my cross stitch! (And I got my first deer tonight YIPPIE) icon_lol.gif

I bake, sewed till my machine broke in the move, any type of crafts like candles, magnets, ornaments, etc. I love to read and draw, but now those are HOMEWORK instead of hobbies. Photography, creating recipes, and computer anythings.

I enjoy sewing and embroidery but I never get around to it.
I love to read, my 8 year old and I read alot of the same books, we're going to end up fighting over who gets to read the last book in the "Inheritance Trilogy" and the last Harry Potter book. I'll read just about anything though.

My husband wants me to take hunter's safety so he can start putting me in for a moose and an elk every year for the lotto drawing for them. I absoulutly refuse because it's too cold this time of year.

You're so funny! My DH and I fought over who got to read HP book 5 first! When #6 came out we found the solutiion to that problem...we bought 2 copies on the day of release (we later gifted the second copy to my 14 y/o niece), then we raced to finish first...trying very hard not to spoil the next part of the book for whoever was behind in reading. (I'm ashamed to say we both finished the book in about 36 hours from the time we got it!) Luckily he is not reading the Inheritance Trilogy, so we don't fight over those books, but he just doesn't know what he is missing. We have all of the HP movies, and I can't wait to see Eragon when it comes out near the end of the year. We also have the LOTR movies & books, but I haven't found the time to start reading that series.

My DH would like me to take the Hounter Safety course as well, and I too have refused! I went hunting with him a few times when we were dating, and I love to watch the wildlife, but I soon found that hunting is not for me! I much prefer to be waiting at home to hear all of the details of his adventures. And it's really nice to have that time apart to make you know how much you miss the other person when they are not around!

I just don't have time for another serious hobby.

I like to listen to books on CD when I am driving, cleaning or making a cake.

I don't care for LOTR but I've read the first 2 books because I always read what my child is reading and he's working on those too.
Do you know when Eragon is coming out? I had heard they were talking about making it but my son will be thrilled to hear that they really are.

The sixth Harry Potter book took me somewhere between 6-8 hours but I had to cook a meal and do laundry during that time. I can't put a book down once I start it.

Oh I SO should not answer this question because some of you are going to get all creepy over my reply, lol. I'm into herptology, sculpture, photography, birding, and both my thumbs are green. I'm passionate about Morelia virdis (Green Tree Pythons) and the breeding programs bringing about all the gorgeous colorations in them. I just sold a female for $1500. (No BS there...I can show you snakes for sale on the Internet for $38,000.-not mine, lol).

Sorry you asked me, huh? icon_razz.gif

This is another forum I hang at full of breeders of this animal: http://p219.ezboard.com/fmoreliaviridisfrm1

Before yall have the tizzies just remember my pets don't require litter boxes, rabies shots, leashes, neutering, and they don't demand attention other than good health care. LOL! icon_lol.gif

(And yes, I *do* have a seperate building for my baking shop..ha ha)

At some time in my life, I guess I've done just about all of the above (well, except for the snakes), but arthritis has pretty much stopped most of them Image

Cake decorating is a little difficult for me too, but pleases me when I can do it, and hopefully also pleases my family to enjoy the cakes I make.

Forgot about the silk flower arrangements, still can do some of that!

The Eragon movie will be in theatres on December 15th!!! Just checked online to make sure, they have a movie website: http://www.eragonmovie.com/

Plus, if you are interested, there is also a website for the Inheritance Trilogy: http://www.shurtugal.com/
(They are speculating that book 3 will come out in the summer of 2007...maybe it will come out about the same time as the last HP book, so DH and I don't have to fight ocer the book this time!! Otherwise it's 2 copies again!)

HTH!

Thanks gmcakes. I don't have to worry about not getting the books first, as Mom I have the right to read everything my child is going to read for content. icon_wink.gif (I'm sticking to that story because it sounds good). icon_twisted.gif The only thing I have to worry about is pouting.

I like to do home dec sewing, cooking of all sorts, and I like to do crafts with the kids. But, sewing has become a chore as I don't have time to do it and so many behind projects that were once a 'want to do" to now a "have to do". I cant WAIT until I'm caught up/

I refused to let myself get into scrapbooking as I knew I would get hooked and I don't need another hobby! LOL

I 'used' to read a lot, but now I'm either here or crashed in bed in my spare time..

I always wanted to scrapbook but I don't have much patience and I think after 2 or 3 pages I would lose interest. I really enjoy photography, mostly of flowers or city skylines...but im terrible at photographing people. I havent taken pictures in awhile, especially since I started cake decorating...its just more addictive!

Morg, I don't think breeding & raising snakes is creepy. It's sure different, that's for sure, but good for you. I just have the regular run of the mill hobbies; cooking, dog shows, square & round dancing, dancersize classes, reading (when I have time) & of course, my most important hobby, my Granddaughter. (LOL)

My second addiction besides CC, is making homemade wine. I start from juice, add all the additives, check the sugar content, alcohol contents, rack, clear, check readings again and bottle. I even make the labels to put on the bottles with my "Vineyard's" (really it is just inside the garage where I make it-lol) logo. I have won the Bronze medal 2 straight years at the Los Angeles, Ca county fair. It is so fun, I give to friends, make for Weddings, holiday, etc. I have made over 25 vintages in 8 varieties. Thanks for this thread, very fun and interesting.

cake decorating
photography
knitting
polymer clay
card making
sewing

Collecting cake plates. Landscaped my whole yard in a Japanese garden theme when I owned my own home, found I had a real love for gardening and also a green thumb. Everything grew. I have always thought I would like to learn to paint. I also spend a lot of time on specail gift wrapping of gift packages. Scrapbooking looks like a lot of fun but just too expensive for me to start, I've looked at all the goodies at Michaels and it would cost a fortune. I do volunteer work at our local community center and once a month I do a free hot lunch for the seniors there.

Hi,everyone!
My favorite thing to do is walk but I no longer have the time for it.
I also love to read. (I, too share the Harry Potter books with my two daughters! And the Cecelia Ahern books, too.) I have to plan when I'm going to read a book, because that's about all I'll do until I finish!

Hearing rock music has always been one of my passions. Watching movies, trying new recipes and being on this forum are passtimes of mine. I use the computer late at night. This is my relaxing time.

For 5 months, I was in a creative poetry class and that was a lot of fun!

It's so fun to learn about everyone's hobbies. I find it very interesting that so many of us share the same hobbies!! As I read the new posts, I think to myself...oh!!! I do that to!

I love music and listen to everything from classical to rock. I listen to country, R&B, even jazz! I'm not so fond of rap, but there are several rap artists that I find truly fascinating, especially "Eminem". I don't know what it is about him, but his lyrics just grab you and make you think.
