Hi. I`m new to the forum and I`ld like to thank all of you for the wealth of information that all of you have been so kind to share. Now for my question: How are tapered cakes made? Is there a pan? If so, where do I get one? Or are the cakes stacked and then cut down?
Or are the cakes stacked and then cut down?
Yeah you got it, that's how it's done. For example you can bake a 7 and 9 inch cake, stack them, the base will be your 7 inch, and the top the 9, you then trim to make it look like one ; )
cheers

I've never done it myself, but I was reading a book this weekend--Collette Peters, Cakes To Dream On--and in it she explains the process on how to carve and sculpt your cakes. She does mention that cake mixes are too soft to carve, so you need a firm, dense cake from scratch. Also, the cake should be chilled prior to carving.
The book was Collette Peters, Cakes To Dream On. I'm not sure why that didn't show up in my first post.
Well.... Hmmmph! Am I not allowed to mention book titles in the Forum? Twice the title & author got blocked out after I clicked "submit." I guess you could send me a PM with your e-mail in it if you want to know the title.
Thanks for the information the the tapered cake. Daughter has birthday 29 next week so I`ll try my hand at making one.
