I have a request for a display cake for a bridal shop i'm really excited about. My question is for a display cake that will be up for quite some time, do you need to go w/ something like perm-a-ice, or is it fine to leave fondant out for eons? I don't think it's something that going to grow mold or anything like that, but will it do anything weird sitting out forever?? TIA!

red, pink, purple will fade, so you'll want to consider that in your design. so far i've left out my fondant displays for about a month, and they've been fine. maybe someone whose had them for longer can give more insight!

I am going to do a display cake and change it on a regular basis to go with the theme of the season or the theme of the flower shop I am using.

My Fair cake was sitting there for a week, and it still looked great at the end....... it was really HOT too..... The lavendar flowers faded to blue by weeks end, but no one would know unless they saw it from the beginning...it all blended in.....

I let some actual cakes sit for 4 months to see how long they would last. The cake itself got really hard & the bottom molded a little but the fondant looked great. I also have some fondant covered cookies that I use as samples, they are over a year old and still look perfect. On a dummy there would be no moisture so it should last a long time with fading your only concern.

I've had some of the same fondant covered dummy cakes for a couple years now. The fondant has yellowed a little to give an antiquey look and it can collect dust if you don't dust it but it's just fine!! I still these 2 dummies on display and I don't plan on getting rid of them anytime soon!!

The flowers have faded slightly but it just looks softer so I say cover, decorate and let it sit til you either want to do another design or you need the dummies!!! Good Luck!
