I got a request to do a buttercream cake with a fondant bow (fondant with gumtex is actually what I usually make them out of) for the weekend of the 11th. I told the girl I was booked and she asked me if I could then just do it early (on a Thursday) for a shower on Saturday. I know the cake will be fine but I have little experience with fondant. Will the bow hold up on a buttercream cake or is it going to wilt after sitting for a couple of days on that buttercream?

If it's possible it will wilt; what if I lay a fondant circle on top of the buttercream first? Of course, I was planning on doing a few ribbons stuck into the cake on the sides and wouldn't be able to do that to those. Hmmm...

Experienced fondant bow makers, what do you say?

I think it would be just fine for a couple of days--especially if you mix it with the gumpaste.

If you have time to test it out I would do that- otherwise if it were me I would just make it out of gumpaste to be safe. I made fondant/gumtex tiles for a cake recently and they softened overnight on the cake.

I don't know - but maybe you could put a small parchment circle under the bow to keep it from touching the BC?

parchment is a brilliant idea. just keep it small enough it doesn't show.

I make my MMF bows several days in advance so they get hard. I even refridgerate the decorated cake overnight so that the icing will set up for delivery. I've only had the hardened fondant wilt so to speak once and that was because it was damp and rainy outside and my husband wanted the back door open. As long as you keep the a/c or the heat on to keep the humidity out of the house they should be fine. Pam from Bama

High humidity is the enemy. If you're in a drier climate you shouldn't have any problem.
I've started mixing a bit of MMF into Gum Paste (rather than 50/50%), to make it easier to work with and to avoid the wilting. We have very high humidity most of the year and I've gotten really tired of wilted bows and other decorations! Lots of luck.
