I have been reading the other posts on this subject, and know that gumpaste is used to help MMF dry faster, but I am still unclear as to when I add the gumpaste to the fondant. I bought the gum paste powder mix. Can I add this in the MMF with the powdered sugar, and if so, how much? Can anyone shed some light on this process for me? icon_confused.gif Thanks!

Follow the directions on the gum paste can to make the gum paste. Then, after it has rested for the time recommended you can break off a chunk to knead into the amount of MMF you want to make your decorations. (You can make the MMF while the gum paste is resting.) MMF needs to rest a bit, too, so you'll be ready to go after an hour or so, I think.

Okay, thanks! How much of the gumpaste mixture should I add into a full batch of MMF?

That's a good question. I've never added gum paste to a full batch of MMF. That makes a lot of MMF/gum paste. But, if that's what you need to do, the ratio is about 50/50%. The more gum paste the faster the decorations will dry.

Alright! I have both mixtures made and am just giving them both time to sit...I do need a lot of MMF/GP. I am planning on making roses until I go to bed tonight. I need at least 125. Thanks for your help!

What will happen if I try to make roses out of MMF without the gumpaste? Will they still hold their shape? How long will they take to dry? I have to make some tonight for a cake that is due first thing Wednesday morning, so I don't have a lot of time. I already have a batch of MMF in the right colors, so if I don't have to make gumpaste....

I have made them before without gumpaste, and they work ok. They are just not as sturdy as they would be with gumpaste. If I only needed a few I don't think I would mess with gumpaste, but that's just my opinion. Since I needed so many this time I wanted to be able to make them ahead of time and hold their shape. That's why I chose to use gumpaste this time.
