I have avoided fondant like the plague as I thought it would be difficult. I decided this weekend to try it-the MMF looked easy--ha! I followed the recipe. Do not have a dough hook for my KA so mixed in what I could with the paddle and then turned it out to try and knead it. Part of it held together and the rest was dry crumbs all around-no kneading THAT! So I added, alternatly, 2T each of water and crisco. Rewarmed it slightly in the micro. Right now it is covered in a bowl-I am exasperated icon_evil.gif It is a hard, solid mass-can't imagine kneading it. I am thinking that if I warm it, try and knead it, maybe mix in some more crisco??? How long would it need to be kneaded?? (envisioning my arms falling off here!) Thanks for your help, I really want to master fondant--I think icon_confused.gif

I think that I'm ready for fondant (MMF), too! I'll be lurking on the responses to this post!

When I do it I never use a mixer. I do it all by hand. I put the 2 cups of sugar in my bowl, make a well in middle. Pour my melted marshmallow mix, and start folding it together. Once mixed I start mixing in the additional sugar a little at a time until it is to a good consistancy. It never takes all the sugar when I do it.

I used my mixer once, too messy.

Grease your hands with crisco and do it by hand. It is fast and not a big deal. I never use all the p.s. either.

Pattiscakenc good advice. I usually end up using 6-7 cups vs. 8 full cups. If I want it stiff for a decoration though I heat it again and add more sugar.

If it's REALLY hard and you aren't happy with it when it's warmed up... I would add more melted marshmallows (vs. crisco/water).

Hang in there, it takes a few cakes and time reading CC MMF forums to get better and better with it.

Good Luck!

I remember struggling the first time also, I only added half the sugar at the start, and slowly incorporated the rest, I don't think that I have ever added the full abount mentioned in the recipe.

Ok, thats my mistake!! I used all the sugar icon_sad.gif Well, I feel better now and that explains why mine was so dry!! I warmed it for 1 min, then used lots of crisco on the table to knead it. Ended up using a total of 6T water to get a good consistency with the whole bag of sugar. Kept greasing the counter if it would stick and kneaded it about 10min. It is a very smooth blob now and I really enjoyed kneading it!! Thanks for your quick responses-I can always count on you guys!! This article was a help, too!
