I've seen quite a few posts on airbrushes whether it's the one from kopykake or preval. But it seems like a lot of people want to know how to use and what it's used for. And I have not been able to figure it out from what i've read. is there a book on how to use it and what it can be used for? just like there are books on how to use pastry bags and the various tips.

an air brush is used to "paint". you can draw with it using liquid air brush food colours. you can get fine detail on a cake with it or just colour your cake without having to colour your icing. it gives a differnt look. there are instructions on how to use your air brush in the package when you buy one. other than that its just practice. knowing how much preasure to use and such and how to manipulate the settings on the airbrush to get the desired look.

a lot of artists use the airbrush....i think that is how it was started and we adapted it to cake. icon_smile.gif if you go to theme parks and watch the artists doing charicatures of people...some of them use an airbrush....it was very popular...i dont know if the popularity has died down.

i think there are a few airbrushed cakes in the gallery.

here is a a link to a pic of an example...it is NOT my cake....one i found doing a

there are several websites that give free basic instructions on how to use an airbrush. They will get you started.

As for instructions, I have used mine for years with no instructions at all. However, I recently purchased a book:

Roland A. Winbeckler's
Airbrush Techniques
For Cake Decorating

...and it is amazing, I just love it! It gives you all kinds of pointers on the basics of airbrushes, shading, stenciling, bordering, portraits and more!

It also has a companion book of patterns, and is available here at the CC shop!
