Lacquer/protective Coating For Gum Paste Creations??

Hi-- I was wondering if there is such thing as a protective coating that can be sprayed on gum paste to add shine as well as protection?
I've found that details I've added to gum paste decorations with food writer pens are easily smeared if it comes into contact with anything damp--- In fact, the gum paste itself softens fairly quickly, or at least becomes sticky when in contact with moisture. Is there some kind of coating out there to prevent this?
I've heard of edible lacquer but am not sure its meant for fondant or gum paste. Thanks!!
I've used confectioner's glaze on both fondant and gumpaste, and it works without softening the completely-dry pieces. It comes in a bottle from my cake supply store, and I brush it on. It's the same stuff that makes gumballs shiny. I'm not sure about the edible markers under the glaze, though. I guess try it on a scrap piece of paste that you've let dry, and experiment?

You can buy an edible lacquer spray that does the same thing as the conf. glaze. Its probably even the same thing but its in an aersol can which gives you a finer coat than dipping. It works great on edible markers, wont make it run, etc.
I bought mine at Pastrychef.com and also Chefrubber.com has it.
