I have been asked to make a cake for a 16 year old boy. They want a sheet cake and he is into cars and girls. No kidding!?! I can not get my mind working on this one. Any ideas on what to do? Don't want it to look too young, has no special car that he is interested in, likes them all. They don't want a carved car cake. Help! icon_cry.gif Normally I start getting ideas on what to do right away & with all the help from the wonderful cakes that I see in the galleries, but not this one.... its due on Sunday.

Thanks in advance! icon_smile.gif

Wow, that's a bit of a tuffy. I've done girls but the only cake I've done for a boy was my son and he wanted everything in chocolate: cake, icing, et al.

Rather than carving a cake, can you find candy molds of cars to put on top and focus your theme using them? Or a car cake pan (I have a nascar pan that is not wilton and it is great, came with edible immages and everything to make decorating painless).

Does he have a hobby or favorite sport or activity besides girls?

His mother said his first real interest is girls, but I don't want to go there with that idea and neither does his mom. She said that the only thing he is really into is cars. I had thought about doing the front grill with headlights of a car coming up out of the cake...but that might still be a bit tacky.

How about an image of the birthday boy driving a really cool car?
Cars molded out of chocolate, painted with color paste on top of the cake?
NASCAR theme?
That's all I got. icon_sad.gif

the only thing that comes to mind for me is an image of a girl sitting on the hood of a car (which is probably what he is hoping for as a gift that day icon_wink.gif )

I'm sure the image of the girl sitting on the hood of a car is exactly what he wants! But I need to make his mom happy with this cake too. I have never done an image on a cake before. Is it easy?

I like this cake by ellepal. Maybe you could make the car larger to fit on the sheet cake. If you like this send her a pm for instructions.

Is he getting his drivers license? In Texas, it's 16, not sure about where you are... you could do a sheet cake, and make it look like a drivers license... I've done that before, it's cute. Or what about about just putting some car logo's on it... like "Chevrolet", "Ford", etc?

Here are a few more ideas.

Cake done by Jenn78. I like how she added the speed limit sign. You could put the age on it.

Cake done by Shellylynn. I know the mom doesn't want a carved cake but what if you could do half a car and lay on its side on top of the sheet cake for a 3D effect? Well, just a thought.

This is the concept that comes to mind, although I have to say upfront that I cannot draw for my life (much better on cake than paper). icon_lol.gif Picture this as the top of the cake. I'm sure you could do a car that is less cartoonish (like I said, I'm not the best at drawing).

I think the muscle car cake by ellepal is great! I can't believe I hadn't seen that. It's perfect for a boy into cars! Or a handsome hubby...<thinking out loud for hubby's next birthday!!> thumbs_up.gif
