Can anyone give me a good recipe for a cake batter dense enough to decorate? I am a beginner. Used a boxed white cake mix and it fell apart as I was icing it with a dense buttercream icing.
Also, any good fondant recipes out there?

for white cake you cannot beat white almond sour cream cake. There are a variety of variations (is that redundant?) for various flavors (again?) Here is a link:

yes! I just tried that white almond sour cream cake and OMG it was sooooo good! I am a total chocoholic so I didn't think I would be impressed, but let's just say there was NO scraps left when I was done.

I also agree that the WASC cake is great!

FYI, no cake can withstand the application of too stiff frosting....
