how do i get the top edges of my cakes straight? they never turn out right. they don't ever have that nice clean edge on them.

Get yourself a plastic putty knife. You know the kind they use to drywall or for painting? It works like a charm and is cheap! Or a scraper works really well too.

What side of the cake do you put on top? I always put the bottom of the cake up to start with a flatter edge. I have a long spatula that I like to use to help get it level when doing the icing.
