I have a boy that wants a cake with the "blue" Transformer. I did an internet search and I can't figure out which Transformer that is. Does anyone know?

He most likely means Optimus Prime, I would think. My Transformer lovin' 6 year old DS cannot think of any. icon_lol.gif

Wow ~ Transformers have a LOT of details on them icon_surprised.gif .

I noticed that there are several Optimus Prime Transformer cakes in the gallery. He must be a popular guy. I assumed when they said a "blue" Transformer that it was like Power Rangers (one of each color). That's what I get for assuming icon_lol.gif .

Thanks for letting me know thumbs_up.gif

He probably does mean Optimus Prime. He's the main "good guy". The older transformer pics aren't near as detailed. Take a look @ my tranformer cake made with choc. transfers. The pic that I found and re-sized isn't near as detailed.

That's an awesome chocolate transfer! Maybe I ought to give it a try for this cake. I love doing FBCT's but I've never tried a CT. Have you all done both? Which do you find easier or better?

Here's a cool 3-D Transformer cake (although mine will be a 2-layer 12 x 18 sheetcake):

I'm not sure if this is what you have in mind but if it is I would be happy to help any way I can.

That's an awesome cake but the one I'm making will not be a 3-D. In a way I'm kindof glad 'cause I've got a busy weekend.

If someone were doing 3-D cakes for a big Birthday it would be so cool to do your cake and the guy's above side by side.

Thanks! I have done both & I must say, that I like the CT better. They're easier to handle. No freezing after the outline. You can make them way in advance, and people just love getting something "extra". They're so impressed, and want to know how you did it. I've only done one FBCT (the penguin cake), so I'm by no means an expert in making them. I had a difficult time getting rid of all the squiggles.

When coloring the chocolates for CT's, do they darken like it does in buttercream or does the color remain the same?

DS saw this picture and wanted to know why I didn't make him THAT Transformer cake for his birthday; that is was cooler than the one I made him. icon_lol.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gificon_rolleyes.gif Phooey on him! icon_lol.gif That is an awesome cake though.

I've done CT's once and FBCT's once (funnily enough, on DS's Transformer cake), and I liked them both, though there is less chance for the "worming" effect on the CT.

As to your color question, I've never noticed them getting darker, but the last time I colored the candy wafers it was with Wilton's paste. Sorry I couldn't be more help there. icon_smile.gif

I am doing a Transformers sheet cake in a couple of weeks and I found this image, which I plan to use. Will this work for you?

.

No, they stay the same color. Just a tip, make sure you give them some extra support on the back or they might break. Once you have the CT all colored in, go over the whole thing with one solid layer to make it thicker. I have done both a ct and a fbct and I LOVE the CT.

lanibird ~ You better hang on to that site. You might be making your DS one for his next B-day icon_biggrin.gif . To help get rid of the wormy effect on FBCT's, have you tried laying a Viva paper towel on it and then letting the warmth of your hand melt them as you rub it? That does a great job getting rid of the wormies.

lanibird & dezzib27 ~ I'm glad to know that the colors stay the same on candy melts. It's frustrating trying to match colors with buttercream.

dezzib27 ~ when you say go over it again with one color, do you mean to go over the backside with one color? Or is it like a FBCT where you're always working from the backside? I tried looking for a tutorial earlier but didn't have any luck.

SugarFrosted ~ I found a few but I think that one is much clearer than mine. Do you remember what site you found it on? Thanks for letting me know about it. thumbs_up.gif

Thanks everyone!

I found it a while ago when it came up in a google search. I saved the image but not the site. When I googled again just now, there were about a gazillion more Transformer images... and after looking at about 30 pages of images, I gave up. I'm sure it's there, just no clue where. Sorry icon_sad.gif

I can email the image to you, if you want.

Luckily, I've yet to deal with the wormies, but I will have to remember this should they ever attack, thank you! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks to the movies (DS & DS saw it twice, in the same day icon_rolleyes.gif , and the sequel is scheduled for 2009) I'm sure I'll be making Transformer cakes for a few years to come! icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gificon_cry.gif

My Transformer cake is finally done. I did a FBCT. I'll try the CTs another time. I took this pic before I added the wording. The Transformer has lots of details but it wasn't near as difficult as I thought it would be. Thank you everyone for all your help and ideas!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

SugarFrosted ~ I ended up using a different image to get a full-body view but I wanted you to know I appreciate your help thumbs_up.gif

Saying Thanks is not required, but in any case, it was my pleasure and you are very welcome! icon_smile.gif

The cake looks great!
