I need to know what most people use to put the tiers on. Mainly what do I use under the bottom tier which is 16" square? Do you get a board and cut it, or are there supplies that are already made? Wedding is this weekend and I am getting freaked.

You need to use something very sturdy such as a piece of plywood that's been cut a couple of inches larger than your cake. Cover your board with a grease resistant paper. For anything that large, you definitely need something very sturdy under it. You could put a piece of cardboard under the cake if you wanted to do that too. But for sure, I'd use some plywood or a piece of masonite board.

I was about to ask this very question. But I do have an additional question. If you use a piece of plywood (say 18") could you coat it with contact paper? Would it stick to the wood? BTW, I've never used contact paper in my life so I'm not quite sure how it works.

I'm sure you could.. I haven't used it either; however if lining a shelf in a cabinet, it would stick to that, so I'm sure it'd stick to your piece of plywood too.

Yes it will work. You can use white contact paper, or what I do is get white bridal paper. It has swirls and pretty designs, and cover in that, then cover in clear contact paper. It looks really pretty!
