I'm doing a cake tomorrow where I think the easiest way to do it would be to cook a few 9 inch cakes and then cut them in half. Then put the cakes together so the flat side is on the cake board. (I hope that makes sense). The last time I put a cake on it's side like that, it fell over. Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent that from happening? I really don't need a disaster right now. I will be lucky to have the energy to finish this cake...I'm 2 weeks from my due date.

Make sure you "glue" the cakes to your board using icing - if it fell over before, make sure you put a decent size blob to glue them down.

Do you have any royal icing on hand? That would be even better!

I don't have any RI on hand, but I will be sure to whip some up. That is a great idea. Thanks. Is there a way to keep the cakes together? I plan on putting some buttercream between the layers to act as a sort of glue. If I don't put too much will this work?

I'm making a roasted pig for a luau party. I found a picture on the internet that would work perfectly for the cake. See the following link: http://www.cakeconfections.net/Roasted%20Pig%20Angle%20Large%20Web%20view.jpg

I thought of using an egg pan for the back end but I don't have one and I couldn't find one in the stores near by, so pretty much it is either using the 9 in pans like I described in my first post or try to carve it...which would take a lot of cake.

Uggg....I baked the cakes this afternoon and every single one fell in the middle while baking. This cake is already trying to frustrate me. Now I have to cook another batch of cakes (5 cakes). I might be able to salvage some of the cakes, but it isn't very likely.

Hey the cake turned out great. (See my photos). I'm still debating whether or not to put a fondant flower lei around the pigs neck. If I do I will post that picture. Thanks for all the help.

Your cake turned out great!! Looks so cute!! A lei around his neck would be a nice touch, but he's cute just the way he is!!

The pig is too cute!! So you are due in 2 weeks? Does that mean you will have a baby on your birthday? (I just noticed your b-day on your profile...) Wishing you a speedy and painless delivery!! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. I really did have fun making the pig. As for the baby, it is due the day after my birthday. I'm pretty excited for him to come.
