I'm new to posting (just shy). I am just crazy for this website. Actually I drive my family crazy with this website LOL. I have never made a wedding cake before. My nephew and his sweet bride are getting married in December. They just can't afford much, and knowing I love to bake, they asked me to bake their cake. I fell in love with a cake design by LisaMae picture 1026 of the round wedding cake gallery. I have the cake stand. I'm practicing like crazy to make larger cakes. I don't think there's a person in the area that's not sick of eating my practice cakes, ha, ha. My first of probably many questions is how many roses did that particular cake take? If it takes what I think it does about 15 doz., is there a wholesale place that is trusted to deliver? I'm excited to have the opportunity to do this, yet I know it is definitely harder than it looks. I am as nervous about this as I can possibly be. I really want this to be special.

Hi!!
Welcome to CC!!! I think I saw the cake..the one with the red roses?
You could PM LisaMae for the number of flowers she used...everyone has been so helpful if I have PM'd them..
I can't help you with the rose supplier though...
Good luck with that...it looks lovely. Let us know how you are doing with the cake(s) icon_smile.gif

Yes, if you go to the member list, you can do a search and bring up her profile. There is a PM button there that you can use.

Thank you so much. I will look her up now. I will let you know how it goes. So far my 10 year old thinks that setting up a camera in the kitchen could make him a $100K winner on America's Funniest Videos LOL.

Do you have a Costco in your area? You can order roses in bulk from them. I am not sure of the price, but according to one customer of mine, she was thrilled with the price. You would have to pick them up, but if the price is right, that would not be a big deal. Good luck with your cake!! And be sure to post a picture.

Unfortunately Costco is 4 hours away. Might be worth the trip though. Yes, Alaskamom, my boys are real comedians. They keep me laughing and definitely on my toes. I posted a PM for LisaMae. Not sure where or how to wait for her reply. Meanwhile, I assigned looking at the cake and calculating the roses to the boys (ha, ha). Should be interesting to see how close they get.

When someone pm's you back, look at the top left corner of your web pages where it says "My account." The second thing down is Private messages. There will be a yellow envelope next to it when someone writes you back. Just click on it and it opens an email box for you to view. Just figured that one out myself! This website has too many cool things to play with!

On the left side of your screen, under My Account..there is a list of different things and one of them is Private Messages..if you have a private message a yellow envelope will show up beside it...you might also be notified by e-mail if you have that enabled (if you are not on CC..hahaha)..it will say "Someone at CC has left you new private message" and then you can click on the link which will take you here...

Under My forum Info, there is a preferences list near the bottom and I think somewhere there is the option to be notified by e-mail...

Do it once and you will have the hang of it!!! ...not complicated and if you have troubles, just shout..we are here to help!!!

I found the PM box you were referring to. (sigh) Now I shall wait. Still trying to teach patience to the boys, realizing of course that I'm not a leading example ha, ha. Thank you all so much!

I've known a lot of people who had wonderful experiences using 2G Roses, http://www.freshroses.com/roses.html .

They're a wholesale flower grower and online retailer. If you can't find a closer wholesaler than that costco (4 hours, eek!) I'd definitely take a look at these guys.

Thanks for the rose website. I will check with the bride and have her help with the color choice as well as trying to enlist some help with rose stem prep work. I feel like I'm about to dive into the deep end here without swim lessons. sigh
I started imagining using Christmas ornaments as fillers. Hmmmmm? At least I wouldn't have to figure out how to keep them fresh.
Royal icing roses would be great too, accept the bride really wants fresh.

I know the bride really wants FRESH roses, but that can be costly...might want to even try silk red roses instead to cut the cost a bit! Just a suggestion!

I think it's great of you to give such a presonal wedding gift to your nephew. One thing they need to keep in mind though, is that if you are giving this to them, they are requesting a lot of expense by making you get fresh flowers--and a lot of them! You said they cannot afford much. Make sure they don't take advantage of the gift and make you spend more than you can afford. Being on a tight budget themselves, they should be able to understand that compromises can be made without breaking the bank while still having a very beautiful cake for their special day. And what's more special than having a family member have the honor of being such an important part of that day?

Make sure you post a picture. I'd love to see it finished.

I agree with lilsis about considering silk roses. We do not know where you live, but lately, the Dollar Tree near me has gotten in some really nice roses, half open like the ones on the cake you want to make, and in varying shades of red, some bright, some darker. There are about 6 buds on each stem, and they're only a buck each. Fill it in with some matching tulle, and nobody will know that they are silk until they get really close.

It's just a thought. Whatever you decide, make sure you post a photo for us!

Thank you again so very much. I worked nights last night and my head is a bit fuzzy still. All of your advise will be taken to heart. I appreciate the time you all took to post replies so quickly to me. This website is invaluable and such a blessing. We're on our way to a city that's not too far from here to check out flowers. I might even attempt making the royal icing roses icon_smile.gif
